VA to fly to SIN [Rumour?]

Does the EK flights SYD-BKK, BNE-SIN, MEL-SIN, MEL-KUL make sense to you or not? How is it different.

Well, no, they don't really make much sense to me either! Particularly given that there's plenty of capacity on BNE-SIN (and MEL-SIN) anyway...

Note, I'm not saying Etihad are stupid for doing this, just that the reasons for it aren't obvious to me!

I'd love to see VA doing MEL-SIN on their own aircraft but I doubt very much it's going to happen. I'll stick to SQ!

I would like to see a VA BNE <> SIN.

This would make my day and I would get some value out of my VFF status.. One can only hope it happens..

I've also been told by a VA source that they are 'considering' starting a CBR - AKL service some time in the 'near' future. This from a company rep but without specific details.

Very interesting.... Mr Snow has built quite the facility in CBR now, just needs some international routes to use it. CBR -> AKL makes a lot of sense as you could then feed into AirNZ connections over to North America (LAX/YVR) quite nicely.

Got my vote if VA have the courage to give it a try :D

Overall on VA to SIN reports - I don't doubt this will happen for a minute. Been hearing similar things for quite a while, Il Duce didn't buy the A330's just to run Coast to Coast forever I believe.

Seems there's two rumours BNE-SIN and PER-SIN. I wonder if a PER-SIN-BNE rotation makes any sense?

From VA on Facebook just now:

Hi Josh, you can now earn Velocity Points with all airberlin operated flights, however Status Credits can only be earned when travelling on a Virgin Australia marketed flight with a VA flight number. Hope this helps.

Guys is it me or does it sound like VA are looking at the possibilities of flying to Berlin?

Pretty sure VA has operated some flights for EY before, so considering this starts in a few months it's likely going to be something like that again.

There are 2 more A330's to come, one late this year from memory

However I don't see SQ being happy about this

They have 3 daily (I think) flights already

Given the choice between SQ and VA, I would be choosing SQ everytime

EY own a chunk of AB as well, so i'd say it's more in line with their 'no alliance' model.

I think Virgin's older brother (SQ) will not be happy with this.

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say that VA agreed not to fly into SIN when SQ purchased VA shares.

But SQ and VA have a joint venture in which they coordinate schedules, sales, and marketing. I don't know the details of it, but I would assume that any decision to fly VA metal to SIN would be a decision VA made jointly with SQ and that the schedule would be coordinated with SQ's schedule. This is like the VA 3x weekly flight to AUH operates on the days EY's second SYD-AUH doesn't operate and at nearly the same time as the EY flight.

Hmm... glad to see them expanding. But I would have preferred new routes over duplicating routes already well served by the 'big 3' alliance partners/owners. Can't really see myself wanting to switch from a SQ A380 to a VA A330 on that leg.

I think you will find its where there is no SQ A380, but ports served by SQ A330 which has the same hard product as VA (excluding XF Awful and XF Broken).

In fact that article suggests VA into SIN was to strengthen the partnership rather than weaken it. Maybe SQ are more interested in providing extra capacity to shaft QF's moves, then they themselves can offer, rather than be concerned over partnership competition. Partnership competition can be manipulated and capacity may be the card they're playing............but then again, what would I know. I'm just an int. noob!

I think QF is retreating from... sorry... "enhancing" Intl services about as fast as it can so I'm not sure how SQ or VA could shaft it. :)

Actually, rather than the plane it is actually the full economy SC earn on cheap tickets that makes me more interested in SQ than VA. Would probably even prefer a SQ A330 over VA A380 for double the SCs!

VA won't operate INT services on the 332 until they get XFI AND XFJ which will be registered with an international operating certificate as the current 6 332's have only domestic operating Certs. They're also looking at flying into HND.

Not quite. All the aircraft are certified to fly internationally.

The (cabin) crew however, aren't.
