VA to fly to SIN [Rumour?]

I have no issues 6 months out, in fact its wide open for all flights,

You win Markis, its wide open - however a month or so ago it was very different. Who knows how the revenue men in the basement think or perhaps I am in the
habit of booking to early. I have noticed fares are considerably cheaper than they were early this year.

Thanks for the info re Avianca.

Did SIN-PER-MEL yesterday. Mentioned to the FA on the PER-MEL leg that it was nice to be back on VA metal after getting stuck in a middle seat after no luck with seat selection on the SQ flight. His reply was 'well there is a rumour that we will be flying to Singapore soon, so hopefully that puts an end to that problem'.

I really do hope this plays out and I'd also like the option out of Adelaide since we were abandoned by the "national" carrier. I think SA could give up one of the two daily flights...

There was a rumour that Borghetti wanted QF to rehub in PER for Europe flights, so maybe he might consider the same for VA and make PER a hub for them.

I also remember hearing similar suggestions on the grape vine a few years back when it was announced that VA would be moving into its own pier adjacent to the international terminal at Perth.
If Etihad gets its act together and offers a PER-AUH service you could also feed in regional WA and Adelaide traffic for two stops to Europe. Easy connection being in the same precinct due to the amalgamation. Interesting times, I guess we will hear more next year when their new terminal opens up!

PER could work but only once VA have their own terminal.

+1 Which is under way as we speak. Still some time away though.

With Singapore Airlines running four 772 services daily PER-SIN, it seems there must be a market over here. I wonder if VA are going to try and steal some market share from coughstar before their 787s arrive?

I get my maiden 777 flight tomorrow on said SQ flight too . 787 is next (from Perth) once Qatar pull their finger out.

Crew tell themselves and everyone else whatever makes their day easier. They might absolutely believe their own press but that doesnt make it real. Personally as already stated I see little opportunity to fly SIN given how well that market is covered already. But that iesnt stop dreaming.

Sounds like galley FM to me.

Being as there is no 330 staff base in BNE and the BNE-PER flights are crewed by staff from MEL or PER
BNE is an unlikely base for direct flights to Singapore.
Also considering max time for a shift of a FA around 9+ hours I think as per WPA.
If you deduct 1.5 hrs admin and prep time then the East cost option is most likely Melbourne.
But then again I am biased.

Direct PER-SIN also an option but could be too dependent on FIFO customers

I have flown SQ on a VA codeshare and as per previous comments, due to no seat selection and no status recognition, never again!
next time I'm flying MH!

If posts from VA 'Blood on the Walls' thread are any thing to go by, a fall back for poor performing PER services may be to use a couple of A330s internationally. As arrangements in place with SQ easier to enhance the relationship with HA & do HNL than Sh@t in a shareholders back yard. I have poor recent memory retdntion but sure JB in past life promised widebody only on Perth an reniged on that, so expediency will win out

The VA product simply cannot compete with their 'partner' SQ's product, nor can they ever match the frequency of flights. HNL is an obvious market for VA as a holiday destination then onward connections with their 'partner' DL for those who want mainland access. Their current arrangement with HA is a bit of a joke anyway in terms of VA seat availability, unless something has changed recently.

For cities that only have SQ regional services, I think the VA product would leave SQ for dead, being identical as far as seats go in J while food offerings are more suited to local tastes with VA.

Agree with that - I would imagine that services to SYD-HNL are a very nice earner for QF and JQ and with VA trying to sell their return fares on HA metal for $1000 more than the HA fare I imagine that VA are getting no takers at all. For economy SYD-HNL fares without the bundles and extras etc JQ are coming in at $1200-$1400, HA around $1700, VA around $2500 and pure QF Y fares $7000  (these figures look a bit suss to me)

BNE to HNL and allowing one stop seems more typical - BNE-HNL return VA $1815, JQ $1922, HA $1970, NZ $2621 and QF $3210.

The beauty of launching A330 services to HNL for VA is that it really hurts both JQ and QF and really leave the QF group with nowhere to hide. A tie up with DL may be popular with the punters as well as it would allow a stop and holiday in HNL and other options for entry into the USA besides the dreaded LAX, provided VA don't mind losing money as well.

Couldn't agree more. HNL has been a big growth market in the past few years and both the QF and JQ products are garbage as HA has capitalised on.

Onward connections with DL ex HNL are quite limited with DL only having there own metal to ATL ,LAX ,SEA & SLC and all with exception of LAX (3) only having currently 1 flight/day

True but they are big hubs. QF/AA only gives you LAX, SFO and DFW direct as far as I know.

Max 9 hr shift for the FAs? Sounds like domestic only and would not apply to int ops.
