re: VA to HKG from mid 2017 [From Where?]

So people are saying it seems unlikely VA would fly a 330 out of PER to go direct to HKG

Come 2018 it will be direct flights from Perth to the World making Perth the domestic-international terminus .... Oh wait, not the World ... London.

re: VA to HKG from mid 2017 [From Where?]

Oh, by the by, had the opportunity to remind myself of how unimpressive SQ 380's are in Y as I did this SIN-HKG last week. 10 across down the back ... yuck.

They're better than QF....

re: VA to HKG from mid 2017 [From Where?]

Still waiting. I hope this happens this year as hinted in previous VA Newsletters

Still did say in this months Borgehtti address in the Voyeur magazine...though not specifically HKG... just a general Asia.

re: VA to HKG from mid 2017 [From Where?]

Realistically I don't think VA will ever operate their own planes to HKG/PEK. They will probably lease HU's planes to operate these routes with their 2-2-2 configured business seats. Having said that, both HKG and PEK are heavily slot restricted. Just ask QF and NZ. I don't see how they will ever make money on these routes.

re: VA to HKG from mid 2017 [From Where?]

I doubt it will ever happen... Been too slow off the mark and other airlines have already added capacity.

I also doubt the PER - AUH route will last long either as Etihad doesn't seem to get that full.

re: VA to HKG from mid 2017 [From Where?]

I travel PER-HKG 3-4 times a year and have to say, I'm pretty much over the SIN stopover.

There comes a point for the freqflyer when time/hassle is worth more than airmiles - if I was doing that route so often I would be doing CX.

Everyone's 380's are 10 across in lower deck Y. SQ's 380s are one of the better fitouts for this plane. I'd take them over QF or BA any day!

Agree with this - has taken too long. The time to do this was 2 years ago. VA don't ever seem to execute at a fast enough pace. JB alluded to this in a business interview last year, when talking about staff that over-analyse options to death and never end up making a decision.

re: VA to HKG from mid 2017 [From Where?]

I can't wait for this. I'm going to snap up a few J rewards when(if?) they become available.

Standard Economy layout for the lower deck

Just like the 747s were....

[FONT=&quot]MORE news on the Middle Kingdom, with Virgin Australia eyeing Brisbane for possible direct flight to China. Peter Sinn, who is spearheading the carrier’s push into China, tells your diarist there could be direct Virgin flights from Brisbane to major Chinese cities such as Shanghai or Guangzhou in the future, as well as to smaller, secondary cities. It is getting easier for Brisbane business people, as well as tourists, to get into the world’s second-biggest economy, with China Eastern launching daily flights to Shanghai last year.[/FONT]

Perhaps HKG and PEK are too hard to get slots? The above is hinting VA staring services from BNE to Shanghai or Guangzhou?

Yes, fair call. Pretty significant difference in price ex PER most of the time though and, ultimately, because QF hasn't given me any reason to fly them dom for ages I'd be throwing away the SC's. Thus, in my dreamworld, I' love to see a VA 330 flying PER-HKG direct :)

Oh sure. Actually, despite what I wrote, what I was _thinking_ hehe, was that I'm consistently underwhelmed by the 380. I remember how excited I was to fly one not too long after their appearance, but wasn't impressed and still am not. Haven't done J yet, maybe I'd feel differently.

The best way to be impressed by the A380 in economy is step straight off an EK 77W with it's 3-4-3 configuration onto the A380 with same configuration. Much more comfortable! One day they will no doubt ruin it with a 3-5-3 configuration.

Another way to be impressed by an A380 is to fly one when you're not lucky enough to own a pair of noise cancelling headphones

re: VA to HKG from mid 2017 [From Where?]

That would be amazing. Hope availability is good when this launches. I definitely wouldn't mind blowing some VA points on this.

There are plenty of us thinking the same thing! Especially now QF has put the tired old 744 on the route so VA's J-class will be very tempting to those of us with split loyalties and / or plenty of points with both FF programmes to burn :-)
