VA transfer to SQ 1.35:1 VA

Used the transfer on the weekend to get a one way SIN-PER Y for a family member. Would have cost 35k points booked via VA on the phone, doing the transfer and online discount it came out at 23k VA points and $180. I've burnt my VA points down recently and only had 25k left, so this worked out well.

Retail cost for the flight was $750 and SQ will be more comfortable than JQ ($250) and Scoot ($200). Overall I was impressed with how quick and smooth the process was - if only VA IT could do such a good job with everything else!

Cancelled an Etihad Munich - Canberra flight in J booked via Velocity and transfered the points to Krisflyer and booked Munich to Sydney in First and Suites. Pretty excited to be flying First (Munich to Singapore) and Suites (Singapore to Sydney) but I must admit the differences add up. Etihad was a total of 250,000 points for two with $277.46 in tax's. We are traveling with an infant which after the calling the call centre was added to the booking for free ( Third time Velocity have done this do they actually charge?)
Etihad J
Munich to Abu Dhabi to Sydney to Canberra
So total cost 250,000 points + $277.46
Singapore First/Suites
Munich to Singapore to Sydney
Need to book separate flights Sydney to Canberra as this can't by done via SQ reward, also need to pay to get to the airport in Munich and home from the Airport in Canberra (Etihad have a free car service)
Total Velocity points before extras 304088 +$1090.90 in Tax's and $850 for the infant fare.
I guess you can't compare First to Business but still I think the point remains that in some cases (non Capital city flights and traveling with a infant) the extra with SQ add up
Anyway really looking forward to the trip and pretty happy with the changes by VA and SQ to allow this to happen.

Jpk out of interest what were the taxes?

It was about SGD$200, the SQ site will actually quote it for you.
I don't know how much it would have been with Velocity, everytime I've got them to quote an SQ metal award the taxes have been significant higher than VA metal though.

Can I just say this new feature is excellent and exactly what I needed. Well done VA!

Just to give another example of VA vs KF redemption:

Just booked SQ Saver J redemption BKK-SIN-MEL (one way): 46,750 KF miles + 314 SGD (equals 63,113 VFF points + 285 AUD).
Redemption via VFF would have been 80,000 VFF points + 55 AUD.

At this price point (17,000 VFF points for 230 AUD) I personally would have preferred to book via VFF, but the particular flights I wanted (esp. the 77W over the 773 on SIN-MEL) was only available via KF, so went with KF.

Online availability for at least some SQ flights now showing on the VFF website - nice work, Virgin IT team!

Also, from the Velocity announcement email, "As a Gold member you will also enjoy an enhanced travel experience, with your Velocity membership level now printed on your Singapore Airlines and SilkAir boarding pass."

I just checked in online printed out our boarding passes... our Velocity numbers are on printed on the boarding passes, but our status levels (WP and SG) are not.

I hope the lounge dragons don't make an issue out of this.

What has been everyone else experience with this?

Show your card at checkin and the lounge and you will be fine.

Transferred points from VA to SQ to book some J reward seats - so easy! Points showed up immediately, flights booked immediately. This is definitely a fabulous move by VA & SQ - encourages further loyalty as far as I'm concerned. :D

I haven't travelled on SQ since the change, but I've never had an issue flashing my card at check-in and at the SQ lounges. In any case, normally at check-in they either give me proper printed boarding passes or ask if I would like them... I usually take them. I'm still struggling to see the practical value in having status printed on the boarding pass beyond the feels, simply because I've never had an issue with flashing the card.

Great, thanks!

Sitting in SK lounge right now looking at my BP. No status printed.

I guess it's still coming...

Update! Today's BP shows 'PTNR PARTNER GOLD' below my name. Merry Christmas indeed.

And in more good news for me, my SQ J flight has been upgraded from a 773 to a 77W!

How long did it take you to get the points out of Velcity and into SQ?

I can't answer on jpk's behalf for his particular transaction, but in my case it was instantly, i.e. once I hit confirm on the Velocity site, I had them show up in the KF account within less than a minute. By the time I was navigating back to the KF page and had the page reloaded they were there.

My experience has been the same

Weirdly, was on a VA codeshare of two SQ flights in the last couple of days, no status to be seen!

Also the flights haven't shown up in my accounts so far, where previous experience booking direct on the SQ flight, would suggest at least the Monday one should have... VA really seem to be trying hard to make their codeshares as bad an experience as possible!
