Wrong my bathroom.....4 plumbers down.... Might have it closed off.....

We could do a sweepstake. I have no idea what the transfer rate will be. Hoping for better than 2:1 but I guess we will soon find out.

I happily send points to both programs using same conversion rates. Any premium they place on SQ points will be a nice bonus along with removing the main problem with SQ of points expiry.

Good thinking DaveB. I have feet in both camps. The SQ 3 year points expiry is why I have points warehoused and I keep the KrisFlyer points turning over. An option to move points reasonably either way will be a very nice addition.

The huge tax weighted against the tiny virgin tax and ease of booking j to lax weighs me towards VA.
also the places etihad can fly direct to Europe and once again cheap tax.

If the conversion rate is decent, this could be the nail in the coffin for QFF for me.

I have a ton of QFF points that I find difficult to use simply because the seat availability is so hard to find unless you book months out in advance which I often don't have the capacity to do. On top of that is the higher points per mile and higher fees and taxes which have quickly gone from bad to terrible. It almost feels like they're selling a lot more points through credit card companies, woolworths, optus and whatever partners but there is no growth in capacity for redemptions to match it.

The real kicker however is that QF have cut so many routes and the timing of many of their flights are terrible I've often had to book other airlines as a result. Seriously, how many people really prefer stopping over in Dubai rather than Singapore en route to europe? SIA with their quality of service, and network out of Singapore pretty much nails it for me.

Just hoping it's a decent conversion rate.

.... I think it will be more like 2:1 on each direction to keep it simple and avoid anyone gaming the system....

Pretty much what my guess would be; same conversion rate in either direction, and way less than parity.

I had originally thought it would be 1.5:1 VA:SQ but I think it will be more like 2:1 on each direction to keep it simple and avoid anyone gaming the system (and given very few people would be wanting to swap SQ points for VA points and SQ points are a lot more valuable).

I agree with this. 1.5VA:1SQ would be a more accurate conversion (1.33VA:1SQ would be a true conversion looking at the award redemption rates) but my guess would be 2VA:1SQ. However, after being abused by QF for so long, maybe VA will suprise.

It would be in their best interest to make this points transfer a highly competitive deal as it provides the opportunity for them to overcome some of the limitations of not being joined to an alliance and make the VFF program even more competitive against QFF.

I'm guessing this is what they thought of when they dreamed up the plan.... and then the accountants probably added a dash of reality :-/

I'm wondering when this announcement come... they did say by November which is only a few days away.

Hoping hoping that whatever the rate is, it is not direction sensitive, ie 2:1 VA->SQ and 1:2 SQ->VA rather than 2:1 in each direction for example

Thus, If SQ points are valued more than VA, then I'd gladly trade in my occasional SQ points (from SQ partners ie United) for VA points which don't expire and I can actually use. And if the conversion is good the other way, then I get to fly to europe more often on the VA points (even if I earnt them on SQ!) which are easy to come by for me ;)

Was it 'by November' or 'in November' .......?

"The new conversion capability will be available to members of both programmes from November as well as an improved online booking capability for Velocity Frequent Flyers to redeem flights on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir."
