VA2.0 International Partners

I have not booked with a partner airline - usually do it thru Viurgin. How do you enter your Velocity # when booking with Etihad on their website?

Previously you could book a "VA" codeshare operated by the partner airline on the Virgin Australia website. However, Virgin no longer offers codeshares on Etihad and if they did, you wouldn't earn any status credits under the new Velocity rules.

When booking on the Etihad website, just select Virgin Australia Velocity as the frequent flyer program and enter your Velocity number when entering your details.

If its a revenue booking there is a field for FF number on the EY booking page (see below)

If its an award booking its on the VFF website

So NH (ANA) is not in the liaison.
Hopefully its early days, and that VA under Bain will announce something about their liaison with NH one day.
Not that I would book it in this cycle, but might one day.
Or if nothing more is mentioned about the VFF and NH, I might have to go with SQ via SIN for my one big future trip to Japan.

If Krisflyer transfers re-open, you can book ANA through them.

How many points per person per direction? Is it fixed or variable pricing on points? On Aeroplan they seem to vary wildly.

I was charged 104,000 per person for J flight from YVR to SYD plus $112.30 fees and taxes

Looking likely that SA is merging with KQ to form Pan-African Airlines so will be interesting to see which alliance they stick with if any and whether VA will remain as a partner

Still yet to have approval of both boards (considering both have government influences and/or ownership) it's a high chance it'll happen.

I'd suspect both carriers be exiting both Alliances and they'll be doing a Pick and Chose for partners. I would not be surprised if a hypothetical combined identity chose QF as their partner.

State owned carriers with multiple countries involved are not renown for their success. Examples include Air Pacific and Gulf Air, where the politics get in the way of a sensible business plan. Given the current state of politics in South Africa this can only end in tears.

Virgin Australia 1.0 is another example of what you've just said ;)

Indeed, we had SQ (via Temasek, state owned), EY (state owned by Abu Dhabi), NZ (half owned by the NZ Government) who sold to Nanshan (why did they buy in?) and HNA Group from the PRC.

Hi team, long time no visit :)

Mrs willyroo (VA Gold) is looking at BNE-LHR return in March. Any ideas on points needed to book into Premium or Economy? Looking at SQ as it's only 1 stop.

TIA

Are you talking about March 2022 (this year) or March 2023 (next year).

If this year then you can forget SQ, currently they have suspended all their partners (including star alliance) from redeeming an award flights that go to/from or via Singapore. If next year then SQ might be an option but you'll just have to wait and see what happens to the partnership.

In March this year cash fares in Economy are about $1700 return. 1 Stop options include Emirates, Singapore Airlines or Qantas (longer stops ~13hrs in Darwin).

At this stage your only option is EY but that would still be a 2 stop in either SYD or MEL plus AUH.
Looking at around 172k points plus $700-800 in fees so not great value.

Depending on what SQ does in a few months time, your only options are either EY, or from April UA via SYD/MEL to LAX/SFO (Immigration Clearance required for all arrivals into USA including Transits).

Air Canada might be an option again via SYD but that's a long way round.
