Re: VA7 BNE-LAX delayed 8rs+ Mon 2/9/13

Surely a phone call to the accommodation advising of your delayed flight would see them honour the remaining 6 nights?

Correct, and in most cases they will not charge you for the missed night, being proactive yourself in addressing such issues can often result in a good outcome.

Agree with being proactive. In the OP's case, accomm is prepaid, so I doubt they would refund the missed night, though they might be willing to tack it on the end?

Losing one night has to be better than going down as a no show and losing the whole booking.

The saga continues. .. currently on board awaiting departure. plane boarded 7pm,crew having to do manual check of luggage due to iT failure. 2 hours on the tarmac and counting!

Ouch - yes this straight of the VA facebook page........ not good !

' Loosing faith very quickly in Virgin. Flight delayed for 8 hours for an "engineering" fault and now we are stuck on the plane for two hours sitting at the terminal just because incompetent people could not count bags correctly. Every now and then we get a "sorry" announcement and we will be under-way soon. Got to the point where I just don't believe them. Meanwhile my holiday time disappears..... "

best to keep any eye on this one for the knock on effect if you're on a VA Aust east coast to LAX flight in the coming days ...........

Kayak doing a much better job of updating this passenger on departure time than virgin staff. Updates are posting via kayak 'my trips' 15 to 20 min earlier than PA calls.

Re: VA7 BNE-LAX delayed 8rs+ Mon 2/9/13

Rolling about 21.45 BNE time ......+ 10.5 hrs from schd.....

Re: VA7 BNE-LAX delayed 8rs+ Mon 2/9/13

Barring any unforseen issues, this will have it in LAX at around 18.00 on Monday night ( US time) , which gives it about 6 hours to turnaround for VA8 to depart on time at 23.55 on Monday night.

Rolling about 21.45 BNE time ......+ 10.5 hrs from schd.....

A fleet size of 5 doesn't help.

Re: VA7 BNE-LAX delayed 8rs+ Mon 2/9/13

Well the way my saga ended was they changed me to the flight via SYD however that was always going to be too close to my connecting flights and they would not put me on the Delta flight which would have saved me.

So after landing in LAX about 1030am I finally got a flight 11hrs later to get me to my destination at 2.30am the next day.
Sadly it was the Monday of the Labour day weekend in USA and all carriers were oversold.
The delay cost me $998 USD for a new fare and a great deal of stress.
Unfortunately travel insurer is pushing it back on the airline, as for Virgin I wont bother complaining as a 'sorry you feel that way' email wont compensate for what was a long stressful day.

Re: VA7 BNE-LAX delayed 8rs+ Mon 2/9/13

Should flag it's now the Friday September 6 scheduled 23.55 VA8 flight out of LAX and the Sunday September 8 11:15 VA7 flight out of BNE that have gone significantly pear shaped ............again........

Just a heads up - VA8 LAX to BNE is very late yet again - read 11~12 hour late out......... with a 10 hour knock on delay to the VA7 BNE to LAX at this point.

These services have had a shocking run of late ........

I think that's it for me ......QF15 out of BNE from now on until VA can get their ducks in a row

Yikes. Any considerations I had for using VA on the TPAC services have now gone. My time is precious and I cannot afford such unreliability.

It seems VA1/VA2 and the DL services don't seem to be affected as much, as if they get preferential treatment. If a flight is to be affected it appears to be VA7/8/23/24.

Surely VA can do without the SYD-AUH service and open up some flexibility on the LAX routes.

Re: VA7 BNE-LAX delayed 8rs+ Mon 2/9/13

= potential problems but even so this flight has a very good on time performance.
VA 7 BNE
Su,M,W,F
97% / 4m

For bigger delays they append the flight number with a D, eg. VA8D. This also has the side effect of evading on time performance rating counters.

It appears to be VH-VPD stuck in LAX again (this was the most recent aircraft to be backed into a fence at LAX).

Re: VA7 BNE-LAX delayed 8rs+ Mon 2/9/13

I think that's the key on this VA route .......the delays, when they have been occurring of late, have been very significant - witness VA8 and 7 into and out of BNE today ....they are shockers again ........lets hope the bag count tallies up correctly tonight unlike the abysmal situation last week which added another 2 hours tarmac time onto an already very late departure.

Re: VA7 BNE-LAX delayed 8rs+ Mon 2/9/13

Virgin have not been in touch since our late flight. The crew were good and we managed to get a shadow which came in very handy for the lap infant but the ~11 hour delay wreaked havoc with our schedule. Our rest day on arrival was blown and we have spent the first week catching up. In two minds about whether to pursue material recompense.
