To my knowledge, VA804 6:30am Syd to Mel (just on Mondays) is the only triangle flight operated by Virgin's A330.
On that note, say you're booked on a Flexi fare, would you consider using 4900 points on an upgrade to 'the business' to be a good use of points on this flight?

I did so (impulsively, it was quite a full flight with only coughpy seats left in y so figured why not) and have to admit, even for the short 1.5hrs, I was very impressed.
I definitely wouldn't have done it if it weren't the A330...

The only downside is because VA does not have a lot of 330s flying MEL - SYD or vv, (I would not do it) because VA just might do what QF and NZ sometimes do, is the equipment swap.
I was booked on the last QF 767 ADL - MEL, and they did a swap to the 737.
I was booked on one of the last 767s SYD - MEL, and they did an equipment swap to a 737.
Lucky I pleaded with the very helpful lounge dragon at the SYD dom QP and she was able to put me onto another flight, a 767 indeed in the end later on that same day.
If VA had more 330s flying the SYD - MEL or vv route, I might do it, but not at this stage.
If you want to try the VA 330, fly SYD - PER or vv, or MEL - PER or vv, but also with these, there is a chance of an equipment swap.
QF now has also got more 737s than 330s domestically, as opposed to the days when they had about a 60:40 of 767s and 737s of yesteryear.

I always use 4,900 points to upgrade on J. Probably not worth it for 90 minutes, but if I've got 500k+ points, it's worth it, especially as they don't block middle-seats for premium flyers.
