Vaccine Rollout in Australia - personal accounts.

Had my first Pfizer jab at work this morning. All very well organised, Pfizer for the under 50s and AZ for the rest.
Injection site is mildly tender. I’ve been tired and headachey all afternoon but I also have a five week old who has been feeding hourly today so not unexpected.

A colleague got the AZ and ended up in emergency with breathing problems 😳
Congratulations on your baby @blackcat20! As a reasonably new Grandma I’m very excited about babies at the moment!

Had my second Pfizer shot at the ACT Surge Centre this morning. So far, same as first shot - no adverse effect.
Interestingly, when I left there was no-one waiting either in the Pf waiting room or outside the facility and the AZ waiting room was also empty.
Don't know what is happening there, but this vaccination is something the ACT local govt seems to have got right - kudos to them.

I had my first AZ shot yesterday lunchtime. 12 hours later, woke up feeling odd, somehow both hot and cold at the same time, with elevated heart rate and mild headache. Did not sleep well. Still feeling a bit weird now so I'm glad it's not a work day. I wouldn't say I feel terrible, just a bit off. I'm in 1b due to work, not due to age or health condition.

As a comparison to the above which was 3 weeks ago, I had the fluvax yesterday as I do each year and as usual the only side effect of the fluvax for me is mild soreness in my arm.

So just received a text from my nearby medical centre, advising yearly flu shots are now available and to make a booking online.

But no texts about the Covid vaccine and no online booking option for that - I have to phone them.

Why are they making it so annoying? Just let me look online, pick a time and do it. If I have to phone and dither about with dates, time ect, I dont make the effort.

I had my flu shot at the office a couple of hours ago. HR confirmed this year 90% of employees across all sites have registered for the workplace flu vax, which is great.

If you are in 1a or 1b should be easy to book an online appointment at the commonwealth run clinics, everyone I know who has done this on behalf of their parents in NSW has been able to get a same day appointment.

If your 2B, the web bookings for commonwealth clinics wont open up until next week (as clearly advertised) and I know in NSW they have stated 2B cant book for or go to the state run clinics or a GP until mid-May (as focus until then is finished 1a and 1B).

Agree. The GP clinics make it so much harder by not signing up for Hotdoc which is what they were supposed to do. My GP clinic has used this for medical bookings for months, likely years now and it's so easy. They aren't doing Covid shots but I still found a nearby clinic doing them through hotdoc anyway.

Hubby is raring to go for this C19 shot but putting it off until after our Lake Mungo trip. Im 1b but just havent made the effort - would if I could book online and then I know I have to go.

We've been talking about in the office and havent spoken to one person yet who has had their vaccine shot yet. We were agreeing that there seems to be a lack of public push to do it. They need an ad campaign with "now is the time" and lets all do this together BS to motivate you. I guess thats the price of living relatively untouched by this, Im complacent.

Book at a Respiratory clinic online. Plenty of spaces. As discussed in the vaccine thread, the messaging from the Feds has been appalling.

Just find a nearby respiratory clinic and book through them. If it’s anything like Canberra it’s really easy to get an appointment and you can book online.

Just remember you need two weeks between the covid shot and the flu shot.
Yes an elderly friend of mine went rushing to get her Covid vaccination and then had to make another appointment as she had just had her flu vaccination :). We were due to get flu vaccinations on Friday, but as soon as I secured Covid vaccinations for tomorrow, I cancelled those.
