My local GP makes us come in for an interview before we can get a vaccine booking

You need to report this, as a consultation is not a requirement for receiving a vaccine. This behaviour is what is making it more difficult for people to get vaccinated.

Finally got hubby's first dose booking at Sydney Olympic Park, now to make mine about 3 weeks after him.

My local GP makes us come in for an interview before we can get a vaccine booking.

Not required apart from a few questions and filling in forms. Does he/she charge for the interview? Illegal if so. The vaccination process if funded by Medicare and free.

Apparently because we havent been to the Dr in 12mths we have to have a pre appointment to get a vaccine appointment but other than make us read the T&Cs on the shots, what is the point?

Put hubby off doing it (because of double appointment hassle) but we read the online info that goes with the online booking and now we're both booked in, a couple of weeks apart for just in case.

Edit, yes will be charged via medicare for pre booking appointment

Couples done 1-2 weeks apart is probably overcaution, but that's what we are doing. Makes sense in case of adverse effects, which are unlikely.

Have to admit didn’t even think of that! As soon as we were offered appointments we just grabbed them and did it.

Boy, I wish I could say that haven't been to Dr in 12 months!! In that situation, I think calling you in for an appt is fair enough; maybe over-cautious, but not un-reasonable from a risk-averse system point of view.

Assuming you mean if you want to get the vax through your GP that they’re requiring the pre appointment Vs just booking it in at the Vax Centre in Homebush?

Thats why we're doing it a couple of weeks apart - considering what he's like when he has man flu, there will be suffering by both of us even if hes the only one to get sick

In seriousness, last time we were both very sick at the same time, he took on a lot of the load in taking care of us/Dr visits, shopping ect which was a lot to put on him, considering he was just as sick

I had thought to do this after reading of some folks side effects on here but now have a booking for both of us this Tuesday.

I rang for an appointment as soon as 2a opened expecting to have to wait a while. Was offered one for just a few days ahead but already had flu vac appointments so put it off until the gap time was up. Add to that we have a 190k round trip as our gp doesn't do the covid vac and we are going to a gp(rc) in the neighbouring town that is apparently very organized. Saves mucking about.

Just in case we feel crook, I have made soup etc so we won't starve and will have easy nourishing comfort food to hand.

We both had our first Covid jab on Thursday. I still have a bit of a sore arm and hubby had a couple of nights of a few chills. But other than those minor things all good so far.

Yep, us boys are just selfless. Last year when Mrs RK brought a cold home from work her doc suggested a covid swab, so I drove her to the centre and stayed in the car with her. I let her take one for the team, even though I had the same cold by that time. Result next day, negative.

Had my first jab (Pfizer) at Sydney Airport last Thursday. I had registered for group 2something, but was eligible as a household member of Quarantine/Border worker and when I clicked to make an appointment, the first date was less than a week out. Second appointment booked at the same time for exactly 3 weeks after.

I had an afternoon appointment. There were 6 people in front of me waiting to check in when I arrived. I was talking to the clerk within 5-10 minutes. I sat in the waiting area after check-in for about 10, and then the compulsory 15 min wait to check for reaction.

No major issues, but about midday the following day, I did hit a wall of fatigue, and ended up on the sofa under a blanket for the rest of the day and night.

Really glad I am on the way to being fully vaccinated, and excited to see us safely get back to travel, business, and life.

Went online and made bookings for the Sydney Homebush clinic and it automatically booked the 2nd appointment at the same time. Our plan is one drives, local cafe breakfast (any excuse for eggs benedict) and driver waits while the other gets the jab then home to rest and monitor (I WFH which makes things easier).

We're having them a week apart just in case it affects one of us.

What a surprise, a local GP double-dips on Medicare payment +++ . The insistence by the AMA that the vaccine rollout must be with GPs from the beginning, and constantly reiterated, is a problem.

Had my 1st dose of Pfizer from Sunshine hospital over the weekend, very quick and efficient process!
Now VIC need to hurry up and put online booking in place, the phone booking service is terrible.

I am not one to defend the government but it is far better than what most in demand private industry are offering. The blame is more with people who did not show up to be vaccinated when they were first eligible. They seem to have responded quickly to scale up demand
