Vaccine Rollout in Australia - personal accounts.

After AZ 2nd shot yesterday lunchtime, I had a terrible night's sleep feeling restless like I'd had too many cups of tea (but I'd only had 2 that day, one at 7am and one at noon), and my arm is aching, although luckily not so much that it hurts to even move it. No fever, chills or headache this time.

For those who have had only 1 AZ shot, are you waiting the full 12 weeks for the 2nd Jab? My 2nd is due an around 4 weeks from now but wondering if I should just go and get it done.

Interested to hear thoughts..

I did mine at just before the 12 weeks as that date suited me. I think there are several others who have had it from about the 10th week.

Specialist advice that I have been given is that the full twelve weeks gives a more robust result.
However, for several reasons, I need to have my second shot at the 11 week mark, and that has been given the go ahead by my medical adviser.
Obviously, this is my personal situation only. No doubt others will provide informed professional views. :)

Probably just a coincidence but how long since you had your vac?

I had the weirdest dream around night 9. That's something very unusual unusual for me. As it happened, the next morning I had a doctors appointment for a test. The nurse doing it asked if I had the Vac yet ( she had done my flu shot a few weeks before.) I said when and that all I had was a headache from it. I didn't mention my dream at that time. She had her jab early on and mentioned she and another colleague had also had headaches but the oddest dreams a number of days later.

So maybe there is something in it. I only had the one bad night and hope there are no more as it was very disconcerting.
Weird.

I had my vac Wed 16th. Last night I had weird dream and this morning I had a headache (Panadine sorted it out).

I think headaches might be a lot more common from vax than has been officially noted. And because it’s a headache it can easily be put to just a normal headache. But I still have one, not enough to say I’m really unwell but also not normal for me either and have had it now since a couple of days post vax (over 2 weeks ago).

And on the other side of the coin, what if you go over 12 weeks? I caught up with my parents this week who are in 80's and have had the first AZ jab. Due to other events they have had to delay their 2nd jab, and spoke with their GP who said out to 13-14 weeks gap is ok. I presume that's ok for their age bracket, not sure about us young-uns in the 60's age bracket.

Lots of people I've spoken to about getting vaccinated fall into one of these categories -
  • Give me the jab
  • mRNA technology isn't old enough to understand if there are any long term risks/side effects
  • l'm under 60, if l get Covid-19, l have a 99% chance of surviving
  • AZ gives people blood clots, Moderna/Pfizer heart issues
  • I'll wait for the Novavax vaccine
  • l'm don't believe in vaccines
  • Covid-19 came from a lab in Wuhan, f 'em, l ain't getting no jab
  • Bill Gates, 5G, Micro-Chips, NWO

Got 2nd Pfizer microchip today. Was booked in yesterday at Melbourne Showgrounds but there, after waiting for over half an hour, when asked if I'd been interstate and I said Canberra, they said it was now a red zone and I had to get tested and isolate. I went to the nearby testing site (which was otherwise empty - no waiting time at all) and got swabbed but then that meant I had to go straight home and isolate. I checked later and ACT most definitely was not a red zone as far as Victoria is concerned. Wasn't happy about being given wrong information and denied the jab (felt akin to being incorrectly refused lounge access...).

Went home and rebooked - happily there was wide availability in Sandringham today. And got the negative result that night.

This afternoon went to Sandringham. Waited for about 40 minutes. The immuniser was interested in how long I'd been waiting there as well as at Sandown for my first dose, saying they'd only just opened the site and were still getting used to volumes. It seemed there was a deluge of bookings as soon they opened. Had to sit with the immuniser in a converted ward for about 20 minutes because they were waiting for the pharmacists to prepare the vaccines. Finally got it and while the needle was still in my arm the immuniser congratulated me saying 'Now you're fully immunised' :)

Abnormal headache within 4 weeks of AZ shot + your clot history = I would be seeing a doctor if it was me, just to put my mind at rest if for no other reason 😲 Even though the risk is apparently only 1 in 1.5m after second shot. (So 1,499,999 people are fine to each one who isn't).

I'm in denial right now. I'm seeing Dr shortly and a simple blood test should sort it. Likely just stress from family stuff right now.

I am sticking with the 12 weeks. Reason being as I currently understand it this gives the best result in terms of efficacy in the long-term.

However if one though one had a high risk of being infected, then an earlier second dose could be preferred.

Another crazy dream night but no headache this morning. Apparently Im going to buy a $$$ flat in Portsea and Chris Martin and Heidi Klum will be my neighbours. Flat comes with parking though 🤣 I have absolutely zero desire to live in the UK and not a Coldplay fan.

Had no choice. I booked via Sydney Olympic Park online and it gave you your 2nd jab slot without being able to change it.

With the AZ vaccine in the UK they found delaying the second dose of AZ to 12 weeks was ideal but over 8 weeks wasn't far behind.
They also found that after the first dose of AZ hospital admissions were decreased by 94% after 3-4 weeks and that was unchanged out to 120 days. The original article in the Lancet can be reached from the ABC article linked by @lovetravellingoz in post 653.

However the story is similiar with Pfizer with higher antibody levels if the second dose was delayed 12 weeks.however the Pfizer results on hospital admissions after the first jab were an 85% reduction -less than with AZ.

In older folk the peak antibody level was 3.5 times higher if the interval was 12 weeks as against 3 weeks for the Pfizer vaccine.

Is anyone curious to have their antibody response checked post second dose? My nephew gets zero response from most vaccinations. He had to repeat all the childhood ones as an adult when entering the Air Force as there was no antibody level.

Just had my second Pfizer vaccination. Relatively quick process at the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne. Arrived just before my appointment time and was vaccinated 25 minutes later, then out after the 15 minute observation period.

Was run through symptoms to watch out for. Though interestingly nothing about myocarditis/heart issues. I would've hoped for something mostly because of being right in the target age range but seems like we're not quite there yet in Australia. Maybe a good thing given what the media here have done to Astra-Zeneca...

Happy and excited to be fully vaccinated in the eyes of the Australian government - waiting for the Medicare certificate update eagerly. Just hoping it's my small contribution toward us getting back to a normal that doesn't mean locking down and stopping travel.

Sore arm on waking up this morning. Otherwise fine until about 10am (18 hours post vaccine) when I got a thumping headache and felt rather cold. Had to throw another layer on at work and get something very warm for lunch, along with Panadol which helped. Jumped in to bed when I got home for a rest, but headache still there. Feeling ok at the moment, with another jumper on.

Certificate in my Medicare app appeared overnight.
