remember there is a hefty change fee and no return of points if cancelled

Yes, they use the NZ Koru Club in Sydney on the way out. But VA has a "temporary" lounge of their own in T3 at LAX, which generally gets fairly poor reviews.

They are partners, but the relationship isn't as tight as the formal alliances (star/oneworld/skyteam). When flying VA internationally you can only use BNE, SYD and MEL Koru Clubs:

Even if you were allowed entry to the Koru Club in LAX you'll have no way to gain physical access to it.

You are theoretically allowed to enter the DL Sky Club in T5 when flying VA long haul - but the only way to physically access it is to arrive at T5 on an incoming Delta flight.

The AirNZ lounge at LAX is in T2, the VA lounge at T3 - there is no 'airside' connection.

Don't believe so - that promotion was a year ago now.

slightly off topic

I signed up for a velocity gold amex deal just before the end of the year, that was meant to give me a certin number of velocity points and 50 SC if I was approved before the end of the year. I pretty much did it for the 50 SC, I had some OS travel coming up and those 50SC would finally get me status.

Well I applied on the 20th Dec, but did not get approved till Jan 2nd, So no 50 SC for me. I protested that I applied intime in good faith and was eventaully assured (twice) that I would get given the points and 50 SC in about 8 weeks. It's now been 12 weeks, I got the points and they did credit me 2 lounge passes. Been meaning to call them up again...

I think they are just flat out lying to me and wont give me the points. But this topic reminded me to call them up again and see...
