I'm in the same boat as you Jake77 with a VA points booking on EY in July. I was going to cancel in order to get my points back and transfer to KF but the only way to cancel was to call VA there was no avenue to do so. As it happens we can't shift our points to KF anyway now so looks like it's just a case of holding tight.

Did you manage to get the booking changed via Etihad?

Going by what happened with Ansett, some star alliance partners honoured ticketed flights whilst others didn't...so it is a YMMV; my understanding is the airlines only get paid by Va when you fly, so if Va is gone, they won't get paid....

We are in a similar situation with a VFF reward flight on Hawaiian - flight in early October from HNL to AKL (then a paid J flight with VA back to BNE). We may yet seek to cancel the whole trip, but sitting tight for the moment till the "free cancellation" window moves to cover these flights (and other components of the trip including a QF reward flight BNE-SFO, and a couple of cruises.....).

Also, points transfer from VFF to KF has been stopped, so that is a no go either.
Talking about the AN days, I had my first SQ J fare, when AN went kaput, it was just about 2001, ADL - SIN, just before AN stopped flying, and also around 9/11.
AN died 14 Sept 2001.
I was able to get the SQ J seat, not sure if SQ ever got paid by AN for the points I used, lucky I got the flight SQ J SIN - ADL back too.
Hopefully VA pulls out of this successfully.
Only time will tell, I would dare say.
Imagine, just 19 odd years ago, AN(sett) died, and now, 19 years late, its likely VA will also go kaput.

I was in Switzerland in Sep 2001 with Ansett award J ZRH-SIN-PER. Luckily they honoured it. Hopefully the same will happen this year as I ave another booking.
