upgrade (certificates)....ah, those were the days (in QF).

Has anybody who lodged their status match in August (however it was done), not been advised in some format (email, monthly statement, etc) that they have received their status match? I (and I'm sure most) can understand that getting the pack may take 2-3 weeks.

Like all Moderators (friendly and helpful :p), I want to make sure that if we are still having any issues, that we can address directly with Velocity Frequent Flyer. After all, neither party wants unhappy members

Lindsay,

I had submitted my status match on the 29th August and had not received any indication of my status match being processed (except for the original automated confirmation email on the 29th). I was a Velocity Gold (which was gained from a previous status match some time ago) - however applied for Platinum Status match as I am a Qantas WP.

Given I had not heard anything (and then reading the posts in this thread) I called the Velocity contact centre today. After a lengthy time explaining my situation (my old status match seemed to confuse things for the rep) - the rep promised to follow up and call me back.
She called back a few times to confirm more details (like what email address I originally sent the status match from) - and finally was able to inform me that they have now processed the match. Logging into my account confirms I now am Platinum (of course - also advised to wait 2 weeks for the pack in the mail).

To be honest - a bit disappointed in the process and failure to deliver in the stated timeframe (I wasn't given a reason - it seems like whatever process they have allows some claims to 'fall through the gaps'). Even more disappointing as I had to book travel to Canberra this morning (for a flight on Monday) and ended up going with QF as my status match had not come though. Will have to wait for my next trip to 'try out' the Platinum experience with Virgin...

I would suggest anyone that is past the 4 week mark to definitely call Velocity directly.....

I applied on the first day the info came out and received the automated response, sent Hubby to match at the Westfield booth in Syd and he had an acceptance email in a week, I emailed again and asked if there was a problem with my application and got the same automated response that my application had been received, had given up on hearing from them and thought i'd missed the boat somehow, I had to book a flight and decided a Virgin one was the best time for me, as usual only carry on luggage, was looking at the final booking page and it said 23kg luggage included and I thought bugger didn't I tick no luggage, then I went to the website to see if I could take it off somehow and found out I was Gold as from 5 Oct so luggage is free! No email to welcome me, just those two automated responses, so i'll wait and see if I get a welcome pack or maybe thats it.

From my experience the email came about 3 days after the status match so hopefully you have it by now.

Screen shot worked for me.

No, not carefully reviewing before posting.

A couple of us are meeting with Velocity Frequent Flyer later this week, so we can bring up items of mutual interest. Getting an understanding of the process and bottlenecks can be important to give information back to members

DJ SG pack turned up this week. If I'd left it until I'd hit WP with QF I would have missed out.

Now with some time left until the end of my QF year and nothing to gain by flying QF I will give DJ another go. Lounge access makes a huge difference to me. A smart promotion but I don't know what it has cost. I have talked to quite a few flyers who have 'converted' to DJ this way though. The QF industrial action will be pushing more their way too.

Sorry I forgot to advise this subsequent to the meeting, but markis10 and I met with Velocity Frequent Flyer last week and he assured us that all the status matches had been processed (including that group of emails that "went missing", but were located and retrieved by their IT people). Therefore most (if not all) of the packs should have gone to fulfillment and been received by members.

Can we have an idea of anyone who doesn't believe their status match has been processed (as VFF monitors this thread and can investigate). For those that still haven't received their SM packs, they can't be far away.

Glad to see you heeded sage advice on the Forum.

You, me and plenty of others as well. Now that I have already re-qualified QF Gold from 1 March 2012 (my status year beginning), it’s time to give VA my domestic flying. I can probably do this for up to 12 months (so hoping to re-qual VA Gold) as my year with VA is 30 August, so brilliantly timed from my perspective (having them separated by exactly 6 months).

A smart promotion but I don't know what it has cost. I have talked to quite a few flyers who have 'converted' to DJ this way though. The QF industrial action will be pushing more their way too.
Absolutely - as a competitor, they couldn't have asked for a better free kick from QF and it's been given to them on a plate. Another good way to get impetus from their status matched pax as well as other disenfranchised travellers.

I did not get any answer to my status match request, which I sent on 24 September.

I applied just after the cutoff, got Gold status match, then a few days later did a J MEL-LAX (couldn't get a Qantas flight) on VAustralia and instantly qualified for GOLD VA until October 2013. So I'm pretty happy about that.

How do you rate it against QF?

I thought it was pretty good in comparison. The 777 cabin is nowhere near as quiet as the A380 business and first sections. I flew QF A380 from London earlier in the year in F. It was very very nice but I hear Singapore First is better. The VA cabin had this neat trick of matching the moods at certain times of day, so at sunset the lighting changed appropriately and at night the whole roof of the cabin became a simulated starfield. The staff are very very friendly, probably more fun than the QF ones. But I've had great FA's on QF, so they are good too. The seats on the VA 777 seemed a little narrow, and the choice of movies was nowhere near up to Qantas' range.

Still, it was very pleasant and I would have no problems flying them again. They are cheaper generally for J flights as well.
