From memory, the last time they had a weekend outage claiming "system maintenance", the new SC earning scheme was being implemented...

This time though - I suspect they're doing IT work on the database to prepare for Platinum or some other "enhancement", but there won't be any changes.

Damn. I was going to order a ton of stuff from dell too.

I think they are doing a major upgrade to their IT system. No doubt it was behind the times and couldn't do as many complicated requests as Qantas can.

Virgin Australia, if you are watching... if this system outage is linked somehow to the upcoming Platinum release. I don't mind if you save yourself 55c for postage and instead give my new Platinum card (Membership #0000000001) to me at the AFF drinks night at BNE. I joke I joke.

Actually if you folks were paying attention, I believe our friend Virgin Australia told us this would be happening this weekend in these very forums a week or two back. He didn't say exactly why though.

My guess is that this about getting the back end in order to support the enhancements to velocity (including platinum) that are coming. I don't think it necessarily means the announcement is coming next week but i think this needs to happen before it can. For example, automating the upgrades process would probably make a lot of sense, etc and any enhanced benefits for the program or for the the plats needs to be available from the web site.

The 24th is a Wednesday and the 31st is a Wednesday (Their 11th Birthday).

For what it's worth... Trying to checkin online without the Velocity system online is a pain.

The system kept on rejecting my booking and giving me random errors. Took me about 10 times to get through.

Nobody else must be able to figure it out, I was Sequence 1.

Yeah I always get errors saying my details don't match, even when they're right. But I go to Velocity and can check in fine.

I wonder if this weekend has something to do with the new seat preference options? Although from memory they weren't going to work until November.

By the end of this week I think I'll actually be close to the Platinum qualifying level, whatever that may end up being...

No we don't. I'm guessing 1000 as that seems kind of logical (double gold) and it seems to be a bit of a consensus guess . Nothing would surprise me though. I'm in two minds about this - I expect the higher the threshold, the better the benefits so i hope it's not too low.

Caveated heavily with the fact that I haven't flown DJ since April- but just flew a short sector out of MEL and saw priority boarding signs for Business, Velocity Platinum, Premium Economy, Velocity Gold. Hadn't seen that second one before.
