15000 points is enought for a return SYD-BNE/MEL trip... considering there is no annual fee in the first year, it is quite a good promotion! :D
I got this e-mail as well.

As you say very good offer of a "free" flight just for applying and getting a velocity national credit card.

Does this mean that takeup has been very slow so far?

Normally a company does not do a special offer if inundated! 8)

Possibly. The offer went out to people that receive Virgin Blue's email updates, so they're people that are more likely to fly. It might be an attempt to market to a particular group. Like how American Express gives special deals to professional groups.

What a bummer!

I applied and got approved when the deal was for 5,000 points. I knew I shouldn't have been so quick off the mark.

Transfer customers

I have emailed my branch and asked them to find out what happens for applications that were transferred from existing National accounts to see if we are entitled to this offer.

I do not see anything to the contrary.

that sure is a slap in the face to ppl that applied before today!

Yay! I got an email back from NAB... I have been approved...

As a fanatical QF FF, I have always said to myself the first time I fly DJ, it will have to be free!

Well it looks like that time has finally come...

Just one question,

If I applied for both National Velocity Visa Card AND the American Express Card, does it mean I get 30000 points????????? If so, I may as well get both as there is no annual fee for first year, and I do need a Visa Card just in case the Amex Card is not accepted .... Can anyone confirm this??????

I already applied for AmEx and got an email saying it has been approved :)

I keep thinking you're restricted to one of the cards. Unfortunately though, I can't find the online reference to back up my comment.

Ask NAB for more information...

I started applying but got tired of the exhaustive process of telling them what I'd had for breakfast. I hate credit applications, and already have enough cc's, so I jumped ship on the application.

I rang NAB today (13 24 64 (8am to 8pm AEDST)). They said that there is no restriction on only one of the cards. I can get both and get 15000 points each .....

So I will apply for Visa card tonight as well :) As some places doesn't take AmeX anyway :)

I just spoke with the folks at NAB, and they said that even though I had applied for the card with the 5,000 points offer, they will credit my account with the additional 10,000 points once the account is set up if I call back at that point.

So those of us who applied early are still in luck!

Ditto. That's why I tend to wait until I'm given cards or provide little information!

The first few questions are interesting. How could the number of flights you take affect your chances of getting approved for a card????

Good Good! As I said, I couldn't find anything to back up what I had heard. Good to see an "official" answer.

Not sure I understand the T&C correctly?

...........

Excludes cash advances (including bills paid over the counter at a bank, financial institution or post office and purchases of travellers’ cheques) or when a Velocity Credit Card is used as a debit card to access linked accounts or transactions we decide are wholly or partly for a business purpose.

No third umpire there... "we decide"

and then.....

No annual card fee for the first twelve months. National reserves the right to review this waiver. Any changes to this waiver will not be applied to existing accounts.

never seen any contractual type stuff so .... ummm... harsh, comes to mind?

Any you blokes consider getting a large cash advance of your Credit Card, like $10k? and then sticking that $10k in your mortgage, and then getting a balance transfer of 3.99% for six months - sounds like a good deal to me?

Good to see the banks are consistant (!). Rang NAB yesterday and they said you only get the points for one card (however they did up my 5000 to 15000)

More Virgin/NAB freeloading

Yep - applied for the NAB Visa card when I heard about the 15,000 points offer. Lots of questions but I guess that's standard, but what I was surprised about was a call this week from "John" who wanted me to fax copies of 2 pay slips and all loan statements. A bit OTT but as I have no relationship with NAB I can't blame them wanting to check me out. I'll be giving them the cough in 11 months time so what does it matter ?!?

But .... I wanted to do the right thing for the missus and told her about the Virgin/NAB freebie. Her reaction was a nonchalant "You do it for me" so I duly signed her up to Velocity last week and then on Monday I started the NAB Visa application. I was disappointed to see that it was showing as only 5000 points reward again, and assumed that they had pulled the offer early because of the number of applications. Seeing as that would not glean much in the way of free flights I gave it away .... until for some reason I clicked the right link yesterday and saw that I had 2 hours and 27 minutes to apply for the 15,000 points.

cough, cough, cough .... where is her Velocity membership # ? ? ? Nope - must be at home, but I'm sure you can click a link on the Velocity web site to get the number emailed to you. Nope again - so I was forced to go home and complete the application from there.

Finished it with an hour to spare but I had a nagging thought :- the web-page said "You have X hours to apply and be approved .... yada, yada ". The approval process seemed to take in excess of a week for me so is that a neat loophole for them to scale the reward back to 5000 points. Suppose I shouldn't complain about a freebie like this (especially when I intend to ditch the cards as soon as possible), but it will be disappionting to miss out based upon the NAB "lag".

BTW - if any NAB/Visa employees are reading this then I certainly did not fill in the application form on my wife's behalf. Sorry if the above inadvertantly conveyed that impression.

Cheers,

AC

Both my wife and I have our NAB/Velocity cards already sitting in the drawer, so what is it to be 5,000 or 15,000 points?

I'm confused :?
