Just received an email from Velocity Rewards that says:

'Qantas Frequent Flyer is currently telling people to switch to one of their direct earn credit cards. They've even thrown in an incentive.

You may think that sounds enticing, but we think you should wait - at least until February.

That's when we'll be launching our offer - something truly out of this world.'

Time will tell just how enticing! :p

Almost makes me think you could win a trip on one of the Virgin space flights.

Karen

Yup, it would appear that the prize will be a Virgin Galactic flight. Nice.

Yes, I'd agree - especially with the graphic included in the email (one of the Earth from space).

In reality, though, Velocity has to become part of one of the alliances before I would consider transferring points to it. Otherwise it's a waste of my MR points (I like RTW fares).

Re: Virgin to allow Galactic flights Via Velocity!

Can't read the link, but assume referring to same thing as on www.engadget.com

Anyhow will only be 5m points plus

still will create a bid of buzz... you never know.. they may have deals.. i wonder if Galactic routes will earn miles??? *ponders* hahaha

But I don't want to go and do any space travel.

I would rather a first class ticket to London on Qantas, so I will continue to direct transfer points to Qantas via credit card and hope I can win the 1,000,000 Qantas miles.

Agree...a crock of cough.Promote somethime worthwhile..like an alliance tie up.Typical meaningless hype
Not to mention how Virgins "Green" credentials stack up with a pointless go nowhere joyflight...Sir **** ,eniviromental vandal

Strikes me as having the potential to be the most pointless promo ever: "Save a million credit card points towards a free, limited duration space flight, that you may or may not be eligible to take, based on medical history, age and ability to suck Bollinger out of a small plastic bag"

Strictly speaking, you'll earn no FF miles, as I believe that it will take off and land at the same place.

Would be one heck of a mileage run :)

I'd thought it might a better credit card direct earn deal seeing as the mentioned QF promoting a credit card deal.

I agree with Brissyflyer, it will be either good credit card deals, or "REACH FOR THE STARS ALLIANCE"!!! Way to go for VBA, they now have a good coverage of Aussie, and would fit the slot for *alliance in this area.
Cheers
Dee.

Yes I immediately thought of the Star when i first saw the message.Would be great if it was this.

I've said many times before that I would fly Virgin all the time if only they were a member of *A!

I can't really see DJ fitting well into STAR alliance in this region.

They have too much overlap with NZ.

Ie

Trans Tasman
NZ Domestic
NZ - Pacific Islands (Ie Samoa, Raratonga)

I can't see Pacific Blue shutting up shop just to join STAR.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves. Remember what happened when DJ introduced status levels? They gave us a vague teaser beforehand and we all worked ourselves into a lather thinking they were about to join *A. It's just too vague to tell us much of anything really, we're gonna have to wait and see.

Well, not me.

And, they have to be admitted, you just can't fly up and become a member.

And no one is going to admit an LCC. So it isn't going to happen...
