Velocity Offer 'that's out of this world'

But Optus has been a partner for ages:
Frequent Flyer - Earning Points - Retail & Entertainment - Communications
And again, who knows what form this point earning will take? Going back to the announcement it could well not be points earned on QFF at all, it could earned into a FlyBuys like scheme that you can then use to get QFF seats.

I think the press release was fairly clear that you would earn QFF points:

From mid-2009, the new relationship will allow Woolworths customers who participate in the Everyday Rewards program to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points

Oops, my bad, missed that. Still, I don't really see it as any different to the Velocity teaser, it's vague in the extreme and gives us little idea as to what form it will all take in the end.

It is different to the velocity piece simply in the timing, you cannot expect too much detail for something launched in 6 months in comparison to an announcment that is two months away. One piece is a "we have something new coming in Feb that will blow you away" while the other piece is a "we are tying up together and working on ways of giving you more ways to earn points" announcement.

In the interests of better information dispersal I have no issues with either, had it not been silly season I expect the Virgin announcement would not have had the lead time it does!

The ad says Qantas offered an incentive. I think Qantas offerred 20k bonuses. I'd like to see at least the 50% bonus they offerred last year.
Not everyone got offered 20K points, only some card companies. However, Qantas did offered a chance to win 1 million points, to all direct earn card holders.

I'm pretty convinced that is the incentive velocity are talking about.

I'm operating on the assumption that Velocity will offer x% bonuses on various card points sent to V. I assume V wants to lure away people from the WoolworthsQFF rewards card. I assume V is aware that 11 Feb is the 'we're taking your points to Qantas regardless' start date for the NAB Gold Card that becomes Amex/MC/QFF.

I'm operating on the asssumption V is savvy enough to tell cc companies to lower barriers to transffers like Citibanks 10 or 15k block minimum.

Soooo, looking at my statement for Citi Platinum, why are my points down 844? The opening points balance of 6k is reduced by 844 'based earned' and the balance is now just over 5k. Have I been robbed???by a Bank?

The stuff I got from NAB set 24 Feb for the start date. I'm not sure how velocity can get any action from something like the NAB gold cards. They basically stated they are ending the gold rewards program, so unless you spend the points within the gold rewards program those points are going to QFF. Would NAB add a new partner just before they close down their rewards program?

Either way I'm hoping that Qantas are going to count the conversion of existing points during the change over as eligible for the million point draw.

Well folks, looks like the prize (or a prize) for whatever this is could be a cool 25 million Velocity points.

I'd imagine this would tie in with a Virgin Galactic prize somehow, but I'm liking the number being thrown around so far :p

Though 25 million probably only means one winner.

I much prefer promos where everyone wins like the Everday Promo..or the Amex 2007 Dec Electrical stores Promo.

Agreed - would prefer to share it among many (even though I am normally not one of the lucky few - so I guess it doesn't really bother me)

I think that 25 million points will get a lot of attention and at the end of the day I guess that is what it is all about. 1 winner of 25 million points is more exciting than a whole bunch of people winning 1-2000 each.

Giving someone a chance to win 25 million Velocity points is an offer 'that's out of this world' and worth waiting for?

"Most disappointing anti-climactic announcement since Qantas introduced Any Seat Awards."

I think it stands to reason that many people here are getting quite impatient. I'm not blaming them - I am, too. I'm not sure whether Velocity's tactic is to wait until it's almost too late to sweep points to QF (before Direct programs take over), or whether it's simply really to create hype (in other words, me, and almost everyone on this thread, has "fallen for it".)

I can assure you that this (25m points) is not the only part of the promotion, and as many have posted it is just the "attention getter". Obviously it is not going to appeal to everybody and part of the promotion has to be to deliver real value to everyone who participates.
cheers

So says the resident Virgin PR department plant.

Glad to hear that the 35 million is not the only part of the promo as that part is going to be basically useless and is just a gimmick.

However I will believe real value when I actually see it.

Until then it is just over-hyped PR that 99.999% have no hope of getting value from.

For that real value to actually be any good, it actually has to be superior to your competitors and value that anyone CAN achieve...rather than a tiny lottery like chance..

Deliver that and you may win my business.

Wasnt the QF promo only 1 million points.... so therefore it is already a superior offer?

Why are we all being so negative about it in this thread???

And has for calling another forum member a PR dept plant.... I for one am grateful for Dave's posts here and the help he offers people when they have complaints etc... he gets things done. That for me is also valuable...

I don't see QF here with someone to offeer assistance like DJ do.

.

And that QF offer in terms of my spending behaviour is also absolutely totally useless as well and will not alter my spending behiavour, or choice of card that I use for particular purchase one iota.

Such offers I treat as gimmicks. Might be nice to win...but the odds are very much against doing so.

Real value to me is points that everyone can earn.

Lets call a spade a spade. He is on the site to promote Virgin.

His recent bagging of Tiger was not offering assistance..it was bagging Tiger to promote Virgin.

And again - Virgin Blue have been better with their 50% and 25% offers recently.

Better than what?

It may have been better for you.

For me and where I want to fly putting points to SQ is better value.

However I agree that such offers (50% and 25% bonuses) are what I like......and are much preffered to lottery like promos.
