Velocity reinstates Singapore Airlines redemptions

I presume when transferring from credit card points most of time it would be better to transfer straight to Krisflyer if we wanted to use points for *A Airlines.

However I know for Coles Flybuys and Virgin Money etc, Velocity is the only option and we are waiting for the Velocity:Krisflyer transfer to start again.

Krisflyer points expire - worth bearing in mind when making a transfer. Sometimes the transfer rates from credit cards are different when transferring to Velocity or Krisflyer - where you get more Velocity than KF. This may offset some of the loss when transferring from Velocity to KF. Personally, I transfer direct to KF (except with Flybuys), but it may depend on personal circumstances and what you want to redeem on.

Life has moved on for many, so less happy to wait. But that's an individual choice I guess.

My personal choice is to book things that are fully refundable - even if it costs a little more. About to do this with a hotel in Tunis for later in the year (flying on a OneWorld redemption).

Also another thing I'm curious about is a star alliance upgrade for United Flights. Say I want to go from Sydney - San Francisco with United and I book an economy ticket. As long as I put the Krisflyer number (not the United Mileageplus number) in, I can use Krisflyer points to make upgrade? We will find out more about the Velocity and United partnership in the future...

Although I know competition for upgrades on United is more intense though...

Just booked a VA award on SQ from Australia to Singapore!

Sure it's only economy and not the greatest redemption but at ~2c per point (value from my flight) it's not the worst either.
I’m thinking of doing that, even though I’d love to use points for J. There are heaps of economy reward seats to Europe at the moment. The benefit of being able to cancel up to the day before is very attractive at the moment.

Does anyone know if economy reward tickets on SQ booked through VA come with seat selection, or are they treated like the cheapest possible fare?

Am I able to transfer KrisFlyer points to Velocity now because of this?💀

In theory you can, but it’s going to be a very expensive ticket as star alliance upgrades are only available from the most expensive tickets (Y and B booking classes), probably looking at $8k or more return for these (don’t know couldn’t find a B class Y was over $9k).

I wasn't able to select any seats until check in opened. The online system wouldn't allow and I couldn't be bothered trying to call up. I believe on paper they include the standard seats.

You can find some random Singapore Airlines Business class flights on Lifemiles (SIN-KUL)

I found this when I was hunting on lifemiles
Not yet. On a related note, as mentioned by others before, SQ are also not releasing J/F reward seats to ANY partners, Star Alliance included.

Does anyone know when Singapore Airlines will release Business/ First class to Velocity or partners?

This is new. I only noticed this earlier today. SQ J is now available through Aeroplan as well and various other *A programs, but seems only to apply to regional routes, which was the case before covid as well.

It took a few days for VA to update its systems when SQ started releasing Y awards to partners again, so might take some time for this as well.

Im guessing regional is their short haul network? HKG might make this cut?

Aeroplan had plenty of PER-SIN and CNS-SIN availability in J when I was looking today. 45k plus around CA$150 charges. Tacking on a VA J leg from the capitals to PER was no extra. Some people might not want to fly to PER in a 737 obviously

It looks like they are slowing bringing back the redemptions on partners, hoping Lifemiles and Velocity gets something soon

So I've been digging around searching November dates and found the J awards to/from the following locations

Australia - PER, DRW and CNS

Brunei (BWN), Indonesia (BDO,CGK,DPS,SUB), Thailand (BKK, HKT), Korea (PUS), Philippines (MNL,CEB), Sri Lanka (CMB), Vietnam (DAD, HAN, SGN), Bangladesh (DAD), Malaysia (KUL), Nepal (KTM), Maldives (MLE), Cambodia (PHN,REP), Myanmar (RGN), Taiwan (TPE).

What program did you search on?

And this for Singapore Airlines?

What program did you search on?
Aeroplan, this would match the SQ I fares released to all partners. Some *A partners like UA and SK are still having problems with SQ flights but technically they would have access to them.

Spent the last couple of hours playing around with VA's points redemption. I am mostly a Qantas FF but I got a ANZ rewards black card because the monthly fee was $0 and travel vouchers are useless during a pandemic so I now have ~200,000 points. I will say that they could learn a thing or 2 from QF's multi city booker where it gives you the option to be flexible with dates and select the class you want.

Yeah it looks like they are being quite stingy about it. I can see from their own website that they have their own Krisflyer point seats on the dates I want.
