Velocity reinstates Singapore Airlines redemptions

Is it possible to book SQ F rewards via velocity?

Also (assuming the answer is no), but if there's J award availability on the SQ website but not on the velocity website, can you call up velocity and ask to book it via phone?
No to F seats with Velocity. SQ has greater award availability on KrisFlyer than on partner airlines - although F seems to be difficult right now on some routes even with KrisFlyer (India only seems to have DisAdvantage Awards). Velocity would never be able to get SQ to release a seat on request.

Not that I'm flying to SIN anytime soon, but took a quick look & found 1 J Reward seat.
States below that 5 left..... would that be for reward seats?? YES it does as I put in 3 guests & still had availability.
That's excellent I must say.
Also had may options on most days a week later to return.

No. SQ usually keeps most (if not all) F availability on their own site.
It's also difficult to find (if any) SQ F on any other partner booking sites, *A included.
How about the J awards. If available on SQ website, is it possible to call up VA and get them to book it? Or can it only be booked if it's available on VA website?

Back in the day I know I had to call VA to be able to book EY F awards when they were available on their website.

and I'd have to call VA to book J HA reward seats.

Never had an issue doing that, of course better to book online, but yano, no biggie!

OT - but is this a sign of things to come? Will future award redemptions on partner airlines only be permitted for economy seats?

MASSIVE disappointment with partner award redemptions (for me). For Hawaiian Airlines.

A few weeks back I rang VFF and asked about availability of business reward seats from SYD to HNL and return. Virtually 2 seats available on every flight through to the end of August 2022. Priced up a couple of dates but needed to hear back about my accomodation - so left it.

Late last week went to book some and for some reason there are no longer ANY business reward seats available on any flight through to Aug 31st, despite some flights having every business seat available for purchase!

I asked to speak with team leader to find out what has happened. 23 minutes later I finally spoke with TL who spent 15 minutes checking through to Aug 31st (if she can be trusted - certainly could hear regular typing of perhaps a dozen keys every few seconds).

Her response - they must have ALL benn redeemed. I then mentioned that there were flights with EVERY business seat still available for purchase (seat maps showing zero seats taken).

Asked for my question/issue to be escalated in case there is a system problem.

Now four business days later - silence.

Anybody have an idea why the entire inventory seems to have been removed for business rewards?

There is not always correlation between what awards SQ provides to its own members and what is available to partners. And different partners can see different availability. Call up, by all means, but don't be surprised if it's not available (but vary rarely you might be surprised that something is available on VA that might not be available as saver on SQ).

Summary: It's a magical black box.

Thanks, I'll take that advice when the time comes! Otherwise going to be difficult to burn these 1.2m points

Very interesting. I’m surprised at the award availability as I’ve been looking at that route for awhile now and haven’t seen any J availability so I am surprised that VA were saying they could see some. I’ve never tried ringing them in the past to check for availability I’ve just gone off availability on AA website

Yup been burnt by procrastinating in the past....now if I see awards I book and ask Qs later. Last week I was searching for J seats to Japan for Easter next year...Nada...just before I gave up completely put in random dates for Feb to Ldh from Syd ...to my shock found 2 returns for 16K per person (rare as rocking horse poo!)....booked it straight away even though +1 was already asleep....nearly bitten on bum though but after emailing over 10 accommodation providers, eventually managed to secure accommodation for our dates. 😀

Same here with SYD/BNE-LAX for an upcoming trip in late July/early August. I've been able to jag 1 x J on DL BNE-LAX, now awaiting either DL to release J availability on the return leg or UA to release availability on the return once 24 May rolls around.
Key is - s/he who hesitates is lost.

Especially with VA as in normal times you can either pay the cancellation/change fees in dollars or points, unlike QFF where you end up having to burn points

Question: I’ve found a flight Mel-Sin in august with J reward availability (saver) on the SQ website, but that flight didn’t appear at all on the VA website when looking to redeem. Is it possible to call VA and see if it’s available? Or do they simply not have access to certain flights?

It is probably not available BUT never hurts to try.

I can only see A350 flights from SYD-> SIN, but I can see the flight on SQ website. Do I have to call to book? I'm assuming it would be the same amount of points regardless of which plane.

SQ has additional availability for its own members using KrisFlyer - especially in premium cabins. My guess is if it is on the SQ website but not the VA one, you are not going to be able to get the seat using Velocity.

Exactly. SQ are under no obligation to make seats available for partners
