Velocity reinstates Singapore Airlines redemptions

I called, provided the flight details and they linked the two legs. Reduced the charge to that of the full journey.

Yes that is exactly what I wanted and I swear I had done it pre-covid to arrange some layovers - i'll try calling again tomorrow and speak to someone else.

Reason for booking with Velocity is it prices at 65k vs 62k for Krisflyer - to me the KF miles are much more valuable as they are harder to obtain.
 
Does anyone have any booking tips for those who have to connect to SQ from a domestic leg? I fly from HBA, but the domestic leg to MEL seems to complicate things. I don’t really want to waste my points on a business HBA-MEL redemption as part of a total HBA- Europe flight, but I don’t want to make a separate booking either due to my fear of missing connections. Is it possible to connect a cash domestic booking and an international reward booking? It would open up more opportunities because J rewards from HBA - Europe are pretty scarce.
 
At 6400 points QF Y is pretty cheap HBA - MEL. if necessary, go afternoon before and stay in a hotel maybe someone will even have a hotel voucher to gift to you. Going the day before is a good way to alleviate the stress of a problem connection due to bad weather.
 
At 5400 points VA Y is the value option HBA - MEL (10800 for J).

I'd say arriving in Mel 3-4 hours before your international departure will give ample time to collect your bags, walk to T3 international terminal as same building, check in etc & settle in a lounge.

I’m quite happy to pay cash for the HBA-MEL leg if booked separately. I just wondered is there was some wizardry that would make the total cost of a points booking from HBA to Europe a little less. Perhaps not. One of the interesting things about international flight bookings is that the difference between a flight to and from MEL is only marginally cheaper than the price to HBA ($10-30), even though it includes an additional flight. The opposite seems to apply with points redemptions.

I’ve been on so many delayed flights from HBA that I fear even 3-4 hours isn’t enough to calm my nerves!

On QF and most schemes, reward flights and revenue flights are priced in a very different way. Being aware of this offers considerable advantages both ways.

With the way VA have been changing and cancelling flights lately I'd be concerned.
 
You had some sort of economy only seat guarantee. Economy? No thanks.
The economy guarantee was actually quite good as they happened to book into revenue fares. This obviously meant a whole host of benefits including the ability to points upgrade or use platinum upgrades not to mention they earn points/status credits.

A few years ago I used 44,600 points + $200 taxes to fly from Brisbane to the Cook Islands (via Auckland) over Easter. The outbound booked as a Getaway whilst the return was a Freedom. This allowed for platinum upgrades to be used on the way back plus I earned 9903 points and 105 status credits for the trip.
