Velocity status on Singapore Airlines

Hi all, I’m flying SIA in May MEL-SIN-LHR and back in July. I’m a Virgin Velocity Gold member and understand that there’s some benefits when flying on SIA, including baggage allowance, priority lanes, lounge access etc. I put in my FF number when I booked my flights and emailed SIA months ago but haven’t heard back.

Does anyone know when my booking will reflect my status tier? I.e. show me I have more baggage allowance? Is there anything I need to do to prod SIA to recognise my status tier when I get to Changi to use the lounges as I have a long layover?

Appreciate any advice and experience!

This is correct.

You should receive the following benefits:
- Priority check in (look for the counters with the Star Alliance Gold logo)
- Priority boarding (again look for the queue with the Star Alliance logo - this is normally group 3)
- Priority Baggage
- 15kg extra checked baggage allowance
- Lounge access for yourself plus one guest to Singapore airlines owned and operated lounge (note these are only in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney, Singapore and London)

Your booking will never show your tier prior to arriving at the airport so don't worry. Just arrive at the airport and if you have an problems show your Velocity card or the digital card in the Virgin Australia app.

Your boarding pass will be printed with "Partner Gold" so to access the lounge just show your boarding pass.

As far as I understand the only benefit you get being a VFF gold member is additional luggage allowance and you can have 1 guest ( inclusive of children).

I gather it is pretty much the same with AirNZ Gold status?

Still Velocity Gold and booked SQ award BKK-SIN-BNE with Velocity points.

Looks like SQ standard luggage allowance is 30kg but I should be OK with ~40kgs?

Lounge access in BKK and SIN.

I've only checked briefly but cannot select seats. From memory I need to call SQ to request seats? I'll do that when I'm back in Australia next week.

Interesting to note on booking that bags need to be checked in 90 minutes before flight. I vaguely recall pre-Covid that was 60 minutes?

Additional checked baggage up to 15kg when travelling to other international destinations:

Lounge access in BKK and SIN.
Worth noting that the SQ lounge in Bangkok has not yet reopened. There is no indication when it will open and currently Star Alliance Gold/Business class passengers can access a third party lounge (although this benefit is not extended to Velocity Gold).

Flight nearly 4 months away and I'm sure there'll be plenty of changes until then.

Surely you should be able to pick up the flights (using PNR) on the SQ site and select seats? Both of my DL & UA booked flights allowed me to select seats for the SYD-LAX legs recently via their website.

I am able to select seats now thank you.
Note that if you have somehow managed to get your Velocity number into the SQ PNR, leave it there. For some reason KrisFlyer will only allow a KrisFlyer number to be entered online or via the app into an award booking.

I was able to add mine - just don't log in as a KrisFlyer member I guess. I just managed my booking via the booking ref # and last name and then added the FF number.

Is this an award booking? With SQ MMB, I have not been able to see any option on an award booking other than KrisFlyer.

Flew to LHR from CBR with no hiccups. All gold status was recognised along with baggage all the way through. Had to get tickets out at MEL from SQ.

Was given priority security and KrisFlyer lounge at MEL and KrisFlyer gold in SIN.

Did you manage to put your Velocity FF number into your booking? Once I put the Kris number it won't let me add the Velocity number. I had priority boarding etc no problems, but am only going to try the lounge on the way home next week. 🤔

Hi all,

I am a Virgin Platinum member, travelling BNE/SIN/MLE/BNE all on SQ flights. We are not able to book through Virgin site so have to book SQ. I have called SQ several times and they have advised I can add my VA number in the booking but I will be unable to use any of the lounges.

This was not the case the last time I travelled on SQ in 2019.

Can anyone confirm?

The SQ lounge access arrangements are similar to what was the case in 2019. There may have been a misunderstanding, especially in relation to the destination being the Maldives. Since SQ don't have their own lounge there, there would not be access there.

Here are the current rules:

Thank you. I definitely asked about the Singapore Airport Lounge, they even checked and called me back to say no access for Virgin Platinum or Gold Members at the Changi Lounge. They clearly need to train their staff as she asked her supervisor.

I also can't find a way to change a reward booking to have my VFF number - or my wife's. Both only give us the option of entering a KF number. I might ring them and ask them to do it.
