Velocity status on Singapore Airlines

I also can't find a way to change a reward booking to have my VFF number - or my wife's. Both only give us the option of entering a KF number. I might ring them and ask them to do it.
Good luck with that!
Note that if you have somehow managed to get your Velocity number into the SQ PNR, leave it there. For some reason KrisFlyer will only allow a KrisFlyer number to be entered online or via the app into an award booking.

FWIW I reached out to SIA a couple of weeks ago to ask about lounge access (flying SIA PER-JFK, Virgin Gold). They advised due to Covid-19 the lounge is not available to Virgin status holders at this time.

Complete garbage they've told you. Whilst some SQ lounges closed, VA status access to SQ lounges was never not available.

Currently Singapore Airlines has open lounges in Singapore (Gold/Plat have access to the Gold lounge), London (Heathrow T2), Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Manila. VA Gold/Plat can access any of those lounges but don't have access to any lounges outside of the above mentioned SQ lounges.

I figured we'd try anyway once we're checked in. It will only be Perth as we have a tight turnaround in Singapore. No harm in trying politely right :-)

I realise the OP has well and truly completed travel by now, but just to add a datapoint for anyone who hits this thread via search: flew SQ whY today (grr… work travel policy) as VA WP and can confirm that entitlements are as published and as per pre-COVID times.

- Added VA details during booking and it showed up in manage booking but strangely not during online check in for some reason (only an empty FF field and a drop-down to select the program that only had Krisflyer as an option). I left it blank and hoped for the best…
- Check-in at MEL I used the Business Class desk. No sign mentioning VA status at all that I saw, but it does say Star Gold in small writing. Walked straight up to a J desk instead of a very long Y line. Processed with no questions asked.
- Baggage automatically tagged PRIO on the tag itself (no more separate priority tags at MEL “it’s all digital now, here at least” according to the rep).
- Boarding pass printed with “VA PT”, “Boarding Group 3”, and “Express Path and the SilverKris Lounge - Business Class”
- There was no express line at security, but it wasn’t necessary. No queue at all (Sat arvo). In fact I timed getting out of the Uber to sitting down in the lounge with a glass of red at under 15 minutes. That might be a personal record…
- No issues accessing the lounge with just the BP (didn’t have to show VA card).
- Boarding in MEL, the signs only said Business Class or Economy, but I approached the Business one and asked if they were boarding group 3 and was allowed straight on (a couple of group 4 pax ahead of me were turned away and sent to the back of a very long Y line instead).
- Didn’t have time to use the lounge connecting in SIN due to late arrival but my onward BP had “You are invited to the Krisflyer Gold Lounge” printed on it.
- Priority boarding in SIN when group 3 was called.
- On arrival into JNB my bag was already on the carousel with a handful of other priority bags by the time I reached it (only ~10 mins after deplaning with no line at immigration either). Compare that to arriving in MAN a few months back having flown SQ J where the priority bags came out last…

All up, apart from having to sit in a Y seat for too many hours, the status benefits worked about as well as it gets.

Great info thanks! I figure I may as well ask here rather than start a new thread...

Were you able to do any free seat selection prior to the flight? I know SQ normally charge for economy seat selection but offer it for free for certain Krisflyer tiers. Hoping that if you can get your Velocity number in the booking that would allow free seat selection in Y.

I was, but I was booked into Economy Flexi(B) class, which included seat selection anyway, so I can't answer on whether VA status would have unlocked this.

Thats a negatory, no free seat selection for non Krisflyer elites

VA status does not provide free seat selection. It's either free because of your fare type or you have to pay.

I booked award BKK-BNE in June for travel last month and seat selection was free. My booking later this month is B class and that came with free seat selection. Is that not due to Velocity Gold?

And looks like any travel with a child up to 12 years old comes with free seat selection too.

Award travel in X class comes with free standard seat selection.

B is a flexi fare which comes with free standard and forward zone seat selection.

Yes this is correct, any booking with an infant or child on the booking receives free seat selection.

All three examples you've mentioned have nothing to do with velocity status.

I am a VA Gold Card holder and I am booked on a PER-SIN-SUR flight with a substantial layover in Changi. I am aware that I should have access to the KrissFlyer lounges but does it matter if my ticket was bought with either the KrisFlyer or Velocity number assigned while booking?

Thanks

welcome to AFF @dgmack :)
It shouldn't matter much if it is an award booking other than getting free wifi inflight with a Krisflyer number in the booking.

If it is revenue and can earn points /SC to either Krisflyer or Velocity then you'd need in the booking the FF program you wish to earn in.

SUR?
Summer Beaver Airport, Ontario, Canada?

Regardless for lounge access you don't need to even have the number in the booking, just show up at the Krisflyer Gold lounge (Note there is a difference between Krisflyer Lounge and Krisflyer Gold Lounge), and show both boarding pass plus Velocity Digital Card via the app.

There are two Kirsflyer Gold Lounges in Changi. The Lounge in T2 needs a nuclear weapon dropped on it (and that's me being polite), no toilets/showers/windows/natural light etc. Meanwhile in T3 the Krisflyer Gold Lounge is new with much more extensive food plus a nicer open space and amazingly both toilets and showers!

Milelion has two very good reviews so you can see the difference between T2 and T3.

My apologies, I just assumed SUR was the correct abbreviation! You are correct @AIRwin, it is Surabaya we are travelling to.

And thanks very much for the replies @henrus and @serfty, that is reassuring. I did have a look on the Virgin Velocity website, specifically the section on VA's partner lounges but there seemed to be a few caveats and redirections to additional pages that made it less transparent.

Do you know if I would have access to the Star Alliance lounges too? Again, some information seemed to suggest that as a partner of United Airlines I would have access to their lounges but I notice on the Star Alliance website it doesn't seem to recognise VA in their drop down menu.

Thanks.

Officially, the VA / SQ partnership enables VA WP and VA SG access to SQ operated lounges before an SQ flight. No non SQ *A lounge access.
