VH-EBV layout?

I think any good news (and I use the term loosely) is going to be shouted as loud as possible given the present environment with the vultures circling looking at an undervalued carcass in their opinions.

It really makes you question the competence of their PR team. Though it's hard when they have to try and generate positive stories from continually falling product and standards - I really can't imagine how anyone would have anticipated anything other than a negative response to a PR event that effectively offers Y+ as J as a "good news" story... given the outcry about VH-EBO/P this was hardly a surprise, and simply drew attention to the seriously substandard J cabin all over again.

WHAT were they thinking?

This was the question on many travellers' lips upon the unveiling of Qantas's reconfigured A330-200 at Sydney Airport on the weekend.
The planes, the largest in Qantas' domestic fleet, will be used on all weekday Sydney

That is an upgrade? To me it looks like something out of the 70's.

First Ipads, now chuck a plastic box on a spare seat in Business.

Joyces destruction of Qantas continues...

I also fail to see the link between iPads, these seats and Joyce so called destroying Qantas.

You fail to see anything wrong with Qantas at anytime, why would these things be any different....

Sounds like he knew it was sub-par and knew he'd have to defend it on the spot - but that job is made a bit harder when the PR team stands beside you spruiking it as a great leap forward!
Yep I agree.

I do. and actually I was one of the first to complain to QF about the new seats. Several times until they were removed from sale and I was contacted directly about it. Granted it isn't totally fixed yet, but then there may have been no control for this bird.

My point to you was I fail to see how iPads in 767's are destroying QF. And that AJ is deliberately trying to destroy Qantas.

So with the A330's with 2-2-2 vs 2-3-2

The seat width is the same yes ?

Also as I thought a few weeks back, as I had read it somewhere previously....

QF have now confirmed they are refurbishing the A330's for international with some type of flat bed seat AND the domestic business class changes....

Interesting times :)

Qantas is fixing its A330 business class seats, pronto | Plane Talking

"Qantas CEO Alan Joyce says he will recommend to the board fixes to the A330 domestic business class seat... Not only that, the current ‘sloper’ seats in business class in those A330s that fly longer haul routes for Qantas will also be replaced with flat bed seats."

"Joyce was emphatic that the existence of multiple and outdated configurations in the A330 fleet needed to be replace by ‘leading’ new products for domestic and international" Sandilands continues, claiming the CEO "said the A330 international fleet would be fitted with full length fully flat parallel to the floor seats."

Granted it isn't totally fixed yet, but then there may have been no control for this bird.

My point to you was I fail to see how iPads in 767's are destroying QF. And that AJ is deliberately trying to destroy Qantas.

Yep AJ has said that actually

"He said the configuration ‘unveiled’ on Sunday had been locked into sales contracts some time in the past, and added that the problem was made more pressing as the A330-200s in Jetstar service were returned to Qantas mainline."

Up until about 6 months ago, I would have say that AJ is trying to destroy Qantas, but I am going to go with the opposite now. The number of changes over the past 6 months are more than positive and are promising for QF.

I am not totally sure about the EK deal though.. I think this will mean the end of Europe flying for QF in a number of years and we'll see Qantas doing USA/Asia only which isn't a bad thing I guess, as long as you get full rights/sc/access/benefits when flying EK

The seat width is the same yes ?

Fairly similar, think the 2x2x2 is slightly wider by 1-1.5"
Reason is the earlier version had the IFE unit in the armrest area which adds about 2" per seat.

Walking through the config today it looks bloody awful. It looks very much like economy.

FWIW, EBV commenced operation last night with an evening return SYD-MEL-SYD.

This morning it did the same, although it departed as QF409 over 40 minutes late, arriving back into SYD over 50 minutes late.

It's just left for PER as QF577 departing about an hour late.

So I was on it this morning - yep the J product looks cough.

The delay was due to another aircraft going u/s and having to get those pax onto our a/c. Last person to board ended up next to me...

Regardless of what the measurements say on paper, it's hard to disagree with that.

I was rather shocked when I saw it. Be it perception or reality, I know that if I paid $1500 or even used 36,000 points I wouldn't be particularly pleased with what I was getting for my points/money.

But apart from the table, how does it look any different to any of the other domestic J configs in the earlier A330s or the 767s.
The pitch is the same, the width is very similar.
I'm not saying its a great product, and not comparable to Virgin but its not much different to every other domestic J seat on Qantas

I used to think the same, but have you seen the config in person? My perspective certainly changed when I did.

I have, and stand by the statement.
I still 'hope' QF will roll out something similar to CX Regional - say 5 rows of 46" 2x2x2

Totally unsure what Ben Sandilands is talking about in his latest article on the subject, apart from stroking his own journalistic ego.
I have seen no articles that contradict the Sandilands/ABT articles since the AJ statement.

Qantas and the A330 biz class seats | Plane Talking

I had seen one somewhere and it was the main-stream media, where a Qantas spokesperson was quoted as saying there were no plans to change the A330 interiors.

Well technically there isn't, as the board hasn't approved it, but if AJ wants it done then I assume it will happen

Having the A330 Int with SkyBedII would be great and then some other solution for the "Long-haul" A330-200's.....
