Vinomofo Wine Deals

Hey man, not looking to throw fire on you.
Neither of these wineries has a good reputation for producing consistent quality. Pirramimma is another Mclaren Vale inflated RRP character, always clearing cough through Grays, DM etc. Im not saying there isn't some good there, but you're gambling.
By contrast, Dave Powel is a great winemaker whose been on let's say an exceptionally rough journey since his exit from Torbreck. I'm looking forward to seeing him turn the corner, but I can't in good faith recommend him out for the moment.

Best advice for you would be Alex Head (>$20), Hardys HRB 2018 (~$20), GB Filesel 2019 (>$30) and Torbeck Steading (~$37.5). Reliable producers and blenders ensure quality each year.
Step up is Luke Lambert Syrah, Margan Fordwich Hill Shiraz or Timmo Mayer Syrah. All ~$50.
Remember wine is poison - so may as well drink the good stuff. Cheers!
EDIT: try some straight Mataro from Greenock creek or similar if you get the chance to.
No fire received here.
Have not jumped in on either.
Appreciate recommendations

While I don't often buy Pirramimma, they have been around a long time and will probably be around long after Dave Powell self-destructs for the final time. They cover a big range of quality/price and style, something for everyone.

Your recommendations include two quite different styles of wines, so I guess you like both, some people don't. Some of them would likely not suit people who do like the mid-range Pirra offerings. I personally would not buy any in your second set, just not my style at all.

I long ago learned not to make blanket recommendations of wines to people whose tastes I did not know. The lesson is that my personal preferences are just that and matter only to those that may share those preferences. Once I understand some wines they do like I can often offer suggestions, sometimes not, if their preference does not match my experience. On Forums I usually indicate why I like a wine by describing the characteristics and flavours of the wine that impressed me, others can choose if that matches their preferences.

My feedback to VM in their last customer survey is that they seem now to mostly be flogging failed exports with overinflated RRP and have drifted away from their roots, which was good deals on genuinely good wines…all the Hewiston stuff coming out would appear to support that view.
That or wine labels made specifically for Vinomofo. I've found it hard to find anything buyable on their site for a while.

Best thing for me on VM is the very occasional true bargain import that bthey have. Worth checking the site very now and again for these.

Recently being...

Domain Bosquets Gigonadas 2018 & 2019 both excellent
Chateau Mont Redon C9DP 2016 was half price
Rall Wines White 2020 from South Africa - Excellent wine was also about half price.

There's also a fair bit of rubbis from an import perspective and many RRPs are inflated. I usual;ly check what the waine can be had for in Europe as part of my selection process.

I took your suggestion on the Rall Wines White when you posted about it last time and very impressed too. Thanks for the tip off!

You’re just teasing now….I have a birthday voucher to spend!
Any recomendations?
Sorry for the delay.

My current picks are

Powell & Son' The Blend' Shiraz 2020 - HELL YEAH - needs no introduction

Price Drop: Shiraz 2019 – Black Market Deal #41849

This is Haselgrove Clarence Hill Reserve Shiraz (Not to be confused with other Haselgrove brand on VM)

I bought both Shiraz and its sibling CS and thought that both were fantastic for the price.

and this Shiraz 2018 – Black Market Deal #44067

Which is Pirathon Silver Shiraz I had it before 2017 and thought it was an exceptional Barossa for the price ($20 over at Nicks)
I found Vanilla dominance on the palate framing dark fruits but in a very good way. Perhaps it is a Hungarian Oak influence but I might be out of my depth there. People I shared a bottle with were very impressed and could not believe the price.

The downside it is a 12 pack so I was lucky to share it with a mate.

Thanks. I was leaning towards this Cabernet Blend 2019 - Black Market Deal #42671 which is Jim Brand Domain, but in the end ordered the Clarence Hill, the write ups seem good.

I had a bottle of Jim Brand Domain Cabernets. I found it too bright and too acidic for my taste. I thought that Parker Reschke Wynns BL and Leconfield CS offered much better wine for less. However some of my friends liked Jim Brand

Just cracked the Pirathon Silver Shiraz 2018. Somehow I do remember it being fuller but for this climate it’s great. Same Vanilla overtones and deep dark fruit on the palate. Letting it breathe a bit while I grill some wagyu to pair it with.
