The chateau and the Yaldara brand were started by a German Immigrant after who come over in one of the POW camps after WW2, called Hermann Thumm, he wrote a book on his life that i read back in the day.
He had family money but also worked hard to establish the Yaldara Brand in the 50's, heavily emulating the French and German wines in the beginning but got famous in Barossa for very cheap sparkling and bulk wines.
Had two sons, whilst he was overseas one day they sold the brand out from under him to first AVL who eventually sold it to a VERY rich Chinese bloke in Sydney who owns shipping ports in china.
He launched the 1847 brand and the Yaldara and 1847 wineries pretty much exclusively made wines for the Chinese market with 90% of stock going to mainland china (1847 has dozens of stores selling the 1847 wine exclusively).
Pricing is purely for optics for very rich Chinese customer, i remember one day he came into the cellardoor and decided a Tawny fortified we sold had to go from $120 to $320 overnight to match the pricing of the Penfolds and Seppelts.
(Hypothetically) Working in the wine industry and having sold wines to VM on various occasions, i can tell you at least 5 wines on the website right now that have been relabeled for the website and the wine in the bottle has a RRP 2-3x the original price.
