Anyone tried this current offering from VIM?

I extracted a good serving via Coravin and tasted 15 minutes later. The colour is dense crimson-black, plenty of extract, 14.8% a/v, dark dusty oak slightly tarry nose, not reductive, just big old-style winemaking, not fruit-driven, but plenty of fruit working on defeating the oak and big chewy tannin extract, again a not-unpleasant dark tarry note, acid is not poking out, but is a little citrussy/sour, good length finish.
With food the fruit sweetens up and the acid recedes nicely, happy days.
If you like the old-style Barossa Shiraz, with plenty of heft, but not the over-ripe Parker style, this is for you. I'm keeping mine.

Lol, so many of the usual fake rrp wines now grouped and tiered as if it's some generous and exclusive loyalty scheme that plebs can't access. My view of VM's marketing just dimmed some more, which is quite a hard thing to do. I doubt it will stop me carefully and opportunistically buying when something right pops up, but sheesh really?

I've largely transferred my buying to Winestar, which has almost all the 'mystery' wines at significantly lower prices, and a more nuanced PR arm. No vouchers, but all dozens are free and I have not experienced any delivery delays.

A friend once carelessly bought both the "mystery" and non-mystery version of the same wine. They phoned him up and told him they were the same and adjusted the price of the order.
Also, the tasting notes appear in the email offering the mystery wine, and on the non-mystery listing but not on the mystery listing. So if you google part of the TN from the email you will usually get the plain listing in the results, or elsewhere.

You'll find that these have sometimes been discussed in this or the dan murphys thread. But given how extremely easy it usually is to discover the name of the wine, that doesn't happen very often.

Yes, Bert don't try particularly hard at all to hide these and usually it's a reduction on a wine also sold full price on the site. Very different to VM black market.

Agree on this, but I find their PR emails a refreshing change from VM. They normally acknowledge that the mystery wine's RRP is a fantasy but that it is a nice drop at the selling price. My experience has been that this is a fair claim. The Reschke RSR 2020, for example, might not be everyone's favourite Coonawarra Cabernet, but at $12.99 it is great value.

Although frost limited yields to just 20 tonnes from an entire 70 acre estate (that's a tiny amount by the way), the fruit that made it into this iconic drop was nothing but the toughest, most concentrated and highest quality. An early adopter of the screw-cap closure, this producer was looking firmly toward the future (even back in the early naughties), and the grace and elegance with which this wine has aged is a testament to that foresight. Dense black fruits, herbaceous and spicy with a weighty, oak-supported backbone and soft tannins on the lingering finish. 15 - 20 years of bottle age has brought a deep complexity and added all those wonderful tertiary notes that us aged-red-heads are constantly searching for. In a word: Brilliant.
