Re: VIM Cabernet $80 down to $40

I got the same. Pondering this one...

EDIT: From Crackawines search, Jeremy Oliver said the following about this vintage:

Pleasingly intense small berry and plum-like fruit and firmish, chalky tannin are simply hammered by meaty, mocha and smoky ashtray-like oak that inflicts a raw, menthol-like choc-mint aspect to this wine. It's entirely the wrong choice of oak for this fruit, within which the wine was kept for way too long.

Interesting that on the VIM De Bortoli Reserve Release Syrah it states 95pts from Huon, yet on his site he gave it 3 stars??

Has anyone else tried the Red Hill Estate Mossolini 2010 Shiraz? Opened my first bottle last night and decanted for a few hours. Definitely improved with balanced fruit, pepper and oak then a nice spice on the back palate. Tried it again tonight after resting in the bottle and not much had changed. I'm a big cool climate Shiraz fan and while delicate and passable I am not sure it is a keeper with 11 bottles left and I felt a little underwhelmed. This might be my first return from the fo... I guess I still have one more bottle to try before deciding!

Dan Murphy's Wine Panel: 91 POINTS
2016 Halliday Wine Companion: 95 POINTS
this is the $13.20 one I bought at a DM tasting recently. I thought it was quite good, not the wow type, but still good. found this while looking for details on mossolini which I didn't buy.

sounds like a return for you. was this the sixty dollar plus wine? what was its vm price?
your description paints it as a 7/10...did you want a 9?

Not sure if it against the rules but the split case thread doesn't have much exposure. Devils lair 2013 Margaret river Chardonnay I am keen to get, but would like to split a dozen with someone in Perth to reduce the price to $18 a bottle with first buyer credit. Let me know if interested!

Yep that's the one which retailed at $60 and at 70% off came down to $18 a bottle. It was by no means a bad wine but considering the quality of other cool climate shiraz's in my collection I'm unsure. I have no doubt that there is still potential to improve with age but with 11 more bottles I've got to consider is this purchase worth the price. I'll enlist some alternate opinions over the next bottle before making the call but I would be interested in how the Mossolini stacks up on other palates.

2010 cabernet blend, $35.....how does lake breeze arthurs reserve sound? I believe the 2010 recently came out so I am doubtful, but you have to start somewhere

Was just looking at this one, I'm guessing Frank Potts. it's 2012 btw not 2010. unless im missing a different wine.

sorry 2012..i was distracted looking at the lakebreeze site with their 2010 notes.
frank potts looks like it llama, and its around $27-$30 in the real world.
I have two to three of the 2011's picked up thru VM in mixed cases..not tried obviously...I hear the 2011 is a fine drop as well, possibly a rival to the lakebreeze arthurs reserve as they are somewhat similar. Sure this new 2012 putts nearly every red varietal into the potts(sorry about that pun), but at $14, it reads very well..see this review from a crowd I like.

2012 Bleasdale Frank Potts Cabernets - Premium - $15 - $40
  • now who out there said they like a good, honest, austere cabernet?

You are going to love this......and they say that drawing and colouring in for adults is coming back in a big way...
