Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

Just got my 2 cases ordered last week :
BLACK MARKET DEAL Chardonnay 2015 - Better Half 2015 Yarra Valley Chardonnay... Cannot find anything about this wine anywhere!?

BLACK MARKET DEAL Shiraz 2014 - Thistledown Two Roads Shiraz... Anyone had this & if so, thoughts??

Swervyn, what did you (or anyone else who's tried them!) think of these two? Looks like they're both back in the big sale...

I bought the Better Half Chardonnay. It was enjoyed in our house, but perhaps a bit too 'fruit juice like' on night 1 - calmed down the following night.

I like Katy....oops, I , like Katy The English language and the use of commas is so important to context isn't it ? So too the use of alcohol and little poodles. Now, allow me to centralise again. I, like Katy would also interested in your review of the Thistledown Shiraz. I bought a case probably in December, had a bottle and from memory, liked the product. I have been slack in my tasting notes for the past 6 weeks so I hope to make amends. The guys behind it make it as a with food style which could be considered mumbo jumbo, but I received some opinions of it from the ceo himself, and that for me is impressive. I will have to try another soon but initial tastings were impressive. Hope you get the same pleasant experience.

Boom! Thanks Beefy, I was hoping one of the hidden gems was the Fox Gordon. I just wasn't sure of the magic incantation....

Did you buy any ? That is of the hilltops region 2014 Bit o Heaven Think outside the Circle cab 2014 -( great label by the way)....I am doing a little due diligence and when you consider that in the Canberra and region September show last year, not the National show however, this 'thing' not just beat, but flogged the other 6 entrants. I immediately thought that's probably a poor representation in a contest, but when it smashed a seventy bucker reserve cabernet made by moppity, and also beat the reserves younger brother up at about thirty two bucks, with the judges making this comment on this entire cabernet class of 2014 - Comment:
Really high standard across the range. Wines were marked down for being over ripe and over
oaked. Tight knit structured and concentrated wines got good scores, tannin management was an
issue in some cases

To me it sounds like a goer.

Well now I'm in a conundrum, I promised myself no more wine for a while. But this sounds like a straight up steal at $9. Anyone purchased and tried?

Too soon Tocky, its new this week. I have purchased and will let you know once it gets here and have had a chance to give it a go.

it's a bit too soon but what I am hoping for is a medium bodied example with great fruit character. That's all.

I've looked into this one, it has me intrigued too.

The only thing stopping me from pulling the trigger is a fairly average score in the 2015 NATIONAL COOL CLIMATE WINE SHOW where it ranked 11th of 18 cabs (and well below the Moppity trio it was compared with in other shows). Doesn't negate the bling and consistently good scores from other credible judges, just raises a question.

But at that price
:)

I am trying to re-read your comments about that close planted and the 97 point mystery........whether in the end it was a good one...

Morning mate. Yep - it was a good one in a weird or unusual way. It would pair well with spicy Asian food given the intense sweet and sour taste you get. I can see why it got 97 when tasted against all the normal fare. It really stands out, and is well made.

I braved the Pirramimma ACJ 10 a few nights ago. Another intriguing wine. I'll report separately on that. Suffice to say, it's built like a Russian Ballerina avoiding a blood test...!
