My Fellow Countrymen,

Wozza is now in the True Blue Club! And officially lives Girt By The Sea!

We are now off for the obligatory Barbie on the Harbour! Now what should I take with me on this special day ...?

Congrats! Welcome Wozza!

Can only imagine* how that feels given the hurdles one needs to jump. Congratulations!

* I'm born and bred, but have friends that went through the process.

Thanks one and all. It was a long and bureaucratic process. But alas, the benefits of the last 7+ years have been worth it. I do love this country I call home, and believe we are all very blessed.

Switching topic back to mof_ - have I been diddled on the Halliday Hero Pack many of us got earlier in 2015? I am on my second day of the Punch Close Planted Lance's Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012.

I thought it was a 97 pointer, as was all six wines apart from the 99 point - Serrat 14. When I tasted it, I didn't get that 97 point experience. So I headed back to the InterWeb to see the write ups. The 2013 got a 97 from Halliday, but the 2012 was a 96. Can anybody remember how the Fo advertised that Halliday Hero Pack? Or can anybody find a cached version of the Ad on the Web?

My recollection is probably wrong, but I thought I would check.

Thanks AC. I am not going senile then! So who gave it 97 points then? I wonder whether they mixed up the 12 and 13. It's a pretty intense and nice wine, but I wasn't getting that super exceptional experience I usually get from the 97 and above club:

Halliday gave the 2012 Close Planted Pinot 97: Punch Lance's Vineyard Close Planted Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2012 | Australian Wine Companion

It's the regular pinot that got the 96: Punch Lance's Vineyard Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2012 | Australian Wine Companion

Thanks AC. That explains it then. My Internet search skills are pretty rubbish! That's why I am never the revealer of wines on the wine threads - I would be creating many garden paths to lead people down!

Anybody else tried it? It's got this sweet and sour hit that is quite distinctive.

Never mind the pinot - as an Aussie now you should be watching the cricket!

That said, I haven't cracked mine open yet. With the reviews (not just Halliday, but CellarTracker as well), I've put them into my small collection of 'good/great' pinots to open on special occasions. Maybe I should rethink that...

Yes, I should!

It's that intense and well made that it's a good idea to keep it cellared. You have made the right choice. Although, I wonder if it will have the same impact in years to come. Uhm ...

Young cruiser is not enamoured with the mother vine, and his palate is pretty good. I have had a wine ripped apart by a mate and it hurt. Sometimes the day Wozza, sometimes the ambience. I do understand that 97 points is rare air, but as you know, that critic Tyson Alkaseltzer gave the 2020 Grange 99 or even 100 citing it the best young wine he has had in his life. My taste buds are functioning pretty damn well and were in December when I had this Grange. No way known is it as good as was written about. He's a critic for sure, then again so am I. So wine being wine allows a bit of variation. And by the way, Oi oi oi.....congrats.
