2013 hewitson mother vine
Don't ask me if any good... I've got one from a mixed case but haven't tried yet!
It will be very nice.....but you will have to pick up the subtle oak overtones blended nicely with the barossan berries intermingled with the flotsam and jetsam filtration techniques that interspersed with lees rotation leading to one of Woxxas delights - need I say more . No !
Hello all, anyone know what the current mof_ SECRET DEAL Shiraz 2013 is? Tried to search but couldn't find a match on a 96 Halliday shiraz with $49 RRP.
Thanks.

Beefarmer knew I would chime in on this wine! The Mother Vine 13 is sensational for the price, in my opinion.
Don't just take me on my word - on Vivino, 34 people have rated it with an average 4.2 stars out of 5: http://www.vivino.com/wines/9673783
That's a massive score, especially at the mof_ price. My tasting note concluded with:
"Lovely Barossa Shiraz - well worth it's 96 JH score. It's got lovely fruit power and elegance all in one sip. Highly recommended."
If you haven't got some of this, and you like your Barossa Reds - then you have got to go BOOM on this one. Go on, it's just one click ...!

I have a sixer of the 12, is this as good or better?
Helen & Joey 2013 Alena Cabernet Merlot (Yarra Valley)
https://vinomofo.com/wines/red-wine/helen-joey-alena-cabernet-merlot-2013
I purchased this wine after enjoying the 2013 Layla Pinot Noir so much. I was hoping the Cab Merlot would be of a similar calibre. Given that the Alena Cabernet Merlot has recently been relisted of the FO, I thought I’d taste it and report back for anybody considering the purchase.
Night 1 - A very elegant medium-bodied wine with a soft, rounded mouthfeel. Fresh cassis on the front of the palate with some plummy earthy characteristics courtesy of the merlot. A hint of tobacco and vanilla on the back palate delivering some intrigue, leading to a lingering spicy finish. The oak is present but not overdone, providing some structure for future development. The wine is nicely balanced, the tannins are very fine and already well integrated. A very nice wine, and should continue to develop with more bottle time.
Night 2 - The mouthfeel has become exceptionally smooth, full of voluptuous silky textures. The flavours have melded together to deliver a unique flavour experience, redolent of a rich christmas pudding. I can now understand those “other worldly” characteristics referred to by VinoMofo. Delicious. Based on this transformation I would say that a long decant is essential.

I rate the 2012 over the 2013, but that might just be because the 2012's has had a bit longer to age. Both are very good.
Good question, Rocket09. I haven't tried the 12 to personally comment. Vivino has 20 scores for the 12 at a very respectable 3.8 (versus 34 ratings at an average of 4.2 for the 13). But I do trust AC and value his excellent opinions on wine. If he says the 12 is better, then I am likely to agree with him.
The Aus wine industry is far too big for VinoMofo to kill, or probably even have a sizeable impact. They aren't a bottom feeder, more nibbling at the edges.
Did he have an opinion on how the duopoly of the chains is "killing the wine industry"? They have far more effect (own labels, price pressure etc.) than VinoMofo.
Looking at some of the best buys of 2015 people are posting, it will be very interesting if VM can replicate during 2016 that level of quality wines at the prices offered last year. Recent offerings haven't really had any in that class.
