Vinomofo Wine Deals

Not sure Vivino scores are super reliable per say (no offence to individual users), but as there isn't a confirmed empirical scale, it seems to me than 4 is about the average.

Evening Penegal. If you see a Vivino average score of 4 or more, with at least 10 ratings for a particular vintage, then it's likely to be a very good wine for its price, variety and region.

The under $40 wines are a bit more hit and miss on the scoring front, as they tend to attract a higher average score (usually high 3s). [Just guessing, but that may be because the fine wine consumers who purchase the $40 plus wines, score harder than us everyday drinker folk.]

I would say the average is around a 3.5. If I see a late 3s, then I know it's going to be a good wine. If one of the top 50 score it above a 3.5, then that's also a good indicator for me, particularly if the vintage doesn't have too many scores.

The Vivino 1-5 star scoring system is certainly more generous than the 1-100 Cellar Tracker scoring system. I have found myself adapting my scoring a little as I start to rate wines on Cellar Tracker as well as Vivino.

You're paying $15/bottle for single bottles of "non-secret" wine. If you walked into Dan Murphys/First Choice, you'd probably be doing worse at $15/bottle. There are better deals out there (IMHO), but you'd be buying 6 packs of secret stuff.

Yeah I prefer to buy a selection. Even 6 of the same thing is a bit too much for my storage capacity. Agree with your point though. I also got the $25 off so it worked out at $11.50 a bottle for these. I'm pretty certain no retail outlet could come close.

A friend received this recently, so I can confirm, but I'm confused by the changed JH score - it's 93 on the Winecompanion web site, so where/when did it change?
Halliday does re-tastings quite regularly, not sure how he chooses which wines to re-taste and at what timing though. Could be that

Hi all. Thought I'd sent this yesterday but it hasn't appeared on the site (hope I'm not banned!). While it's not my normal purchase - has anyone tried any of the pinot gris/grigio from VM? I'm happy to punt on red quaffers but, even with the return policy, I'm a bit loathe to do so with pinot gris unless VM is doing at least a couple of half decent ones. Thoughts appreciated. I thought yesterday's at $9.90 from Mornington might be Quealy Tussie Mussie pinot gris.

. Hi Violin, it sounds like your grigios and griees have been playing second fiddle to the quaffing reds for too long. Time to draw a long bow and pluck a nice one for you. I have bought two vintages of the Gapstead Pinot Grigio, '14 and '15 and both are fantastic wines for about eight dollars, or seven fifty. Very well made , enough intensity and flavoursome, and so refreshing.

A bleated "Welcome aboard" The Chairman - I hope it is not 7-8 months until your next post.

What has been your favourite VM purchase?

Just saw this advertised: Sensi 'Collezione' Montepulciano D'Abruzzo 2014. I haven't seen it prior to today, but I'm not sure if it has been around previously.

I've been looking for a new Montepulciano for my rapidly expanding cellar for a while now. Anyone have and comments on this?

Not quite sure whether to take the plunge on a full case...

Thanks!

I'm curious who got the email for the 99 minute sale? According to the email "...You have been specially selected to receive this offer and it is non-transferable."
