Vinomofo Wine Deals

I finished off the last bottle of never again over the weekend.
Funny stuff wine , as it was quite drinkable… amazing

The amazing aspect to this wine involving mostly the expectation of greatness was the fact that it had so much bling attached to it at a great price. Golds upon golds upon a trophy. A cabernet, the king of the grape no less. But when you actually tasted it, leaving price aside, I guess amaroo's comments about it being a decent quaffer were about the best review you could find. Most of us found it so uninspiring that it was returned.

It's as simple as that. My expectations were too high, possibly yours, but I guess where those medals were obtained should have been a little more of a giveaway. But was this wine worse than the Mitolo Cantiniere fiasco ?

I think the Mitolo was a weally wretched wine which went way way down the sink.

Next time I am sticking to Thinking outside the damn square.

Capel Vale Cellar Exclusive Cab

The 2013 was dope as hell, big jammy fruit great value at under $10 a bottle i think i got probably 5 cases, Halliday gave it a 93 but it was way more satisfying then the circle. Its ALL personal preference but if you like big jammy, chocolatey cabs then if the 2014 was anything like the 2013 you have nothing to complain about.

it's definitely a wine i'm going to look forward to seeing how it develops and definitely gets my award for best bottle under $10 of 2015.

I think Wozza was a big fan of the 2013 Cabernet blend. Personally, I may have bought one in a mixed box and have yet to try.

This is the sort of thing the Fo are famous for. A seriously good wine that over delivers and is under budget.

I'm a bit slow on the uptake today but I got it, and the Gapsted sparkling. Phew!
The sparkling arrived tonight. Oddly, the courier didn't press the buzzer. Just left the case near the door downstairs (per instructions if no one home) then sent a text message.
Wonder what will happen when the Pinot Grigio turns up?

You're not wrong, Beefarmer.

I picked up the Capel Vale Cellar Exclusive Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 in the one and only Salvation Case I have bought from the Fo. And it was one of the standout wines from that case that I waxed lyrical over at the time:

2013 Capel Vale Cabernet Sauvignon Cellar Exclusive, Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River - CellarTracker

"A 'not bad' 3.5 (C.T. 91) from me, with a 0.2 nudge up for price versus experience. The label says this is a limited release when Capel Vale achieves an exceptional varietal wine from the Cool Climate vineyards of the Margaret River. For $10 VinoMofo have sourced and priced this exceptionally well. The nose is sweet and heady. But the palate is medium bodied and elegant - with mulberries, blackberries, a hint of bay leaf and cigar box, leading to a warm mouthfill of light white pepper that lingers nicely. Very nice."

The price really stood out, as this wine (the 13) delivered beyond a $10 quaffer. I remember the feeling of guilt I had - thinking that the good guys at Capel Vale would have been proud of this wine, only to find the wholesale market saying its (at a guess) a $4 or $5 wine, with a retail price of only $10 online.

I am exploring the aged wines at the moment, and would never buy a 12 Pack. But if the 14 is as good as the 13 and is priced around where the 13 was, then it should be a good buy for many people.

Note: C.T. 91 refers to my Cellar Tracking score out of 100 which I am now including in my TNs. 3.5 out of 5 and 91 out of 100 sounds low. But that's pretty good by my scoring in this price point. For example, the last sub-$10 wine I had got a 2.8 / 87.

Love your input Wozza.

Thanks, pressed it twice in the shopping cart!

Love your reviews, honestly use them quite a bit.

Based on this review I would order, but I am holding off any ordering for a while.

Many of us are anxiously awaiting Langtons delivery of Wozzas's recent recommendation. Considering it's a very religious time, if Wozzas' notes don't deliver, I would suggest a little bit of carpentry on the life line.

Remember also that Wozza is the bloke who brought the Hemera Tier 1 Shiraz to a function and it wasn't just good, it was ridiculously good, so I personally have no fears about Wozzas having to hang around. Wozza does for wine reviews what sildenafil does for many ! Keep it UP Wozza !

When I grow up I want to be Wozza.

Just kidding, there can only be one Wozza...

Oh my.

I hope you all like the Hare's Chase Ironscraper Shiraz 13 (http://www.vivino.com/users/8818052/activities/90083650) as much as I did (that's the Langtons wine Beefarmer is alluding to, with his Easter references!!).

Such a great wine at $25, even at this just-after-bottling stage. If you don't like it, mate, then I'll buy the rest off you (saving me a gruesome, Roman Empire death!). It's such an elegant and well made wine, that I'd be surprised if it ends up in anybody's Spag Bol. But you never know, wine is very subjective...!

And, to put my money where my mouth is, I am sharing another case with the very lovely, Alzoam.

Annndd, I had a lovely personal email from the Ironscraper winemaker yesterday, confirming they have been working really hard over many years to get the Ironscraper to the excellent standard they have reached on its first release. That was really nice.

For those wondering what Beefarmer and I are talking about, it's this: https://www.langtons.com.au/product-details/67437/1/2013/hares-chase/ironscraper-shiraz.

It's saying Sold Out, but I think they are doing the usual online sold out / back in stock marketing trick. As my amazing Langtons broker said they had a fair stock left this morning. So maybe, give them a call (1300 946 347) or check back to the link above if you are interested.

And, and, thanks for the lovely feedback. I'm only trying to give a tiny bit back in return for all the enormous help and advice I get in the forum. I quickly worked out my strength was the wine reviews (I was / am hopeless at the wine reveals), so have mostly stuck to contributing these.

What did they score it?

CM rated it a 94 on TWF. Bought a case last night after reading his review. Boom!

His review:
Every now and then a Gundagai shiraz comes all that really turns the tucker box on its head.

This is a ripper. I’d buy a box of it in a heartbeat. It’s savoury, fruity, splashed with coffeed oak and super fun to drink. It has tannin too, fine and strong, though the juiciness of the flavours keeps the momentum rollicking along. One of those ‘spot on’ wines. Should I rate it higher? Probably.

It's a great bargain. I'm enjoying mine muchly - much better (and cheaper) than the Grove SV.

Wozza thanks for the Hare's Chase rec, I'll check it out. I already have too much shiraz but that's never been a problem in the past ;-)
