Vinomofo Wine Deals

My guess is that they put it out there on VM, CM reviewed it, and now they probably realise their mistake. My view is that we therefore probably won't see it again on VM.

Or they might get better terms from VM now.

Plenty of well rated stuff on VM, even some 97pt stuff. Just because it's got a good rating doesn't mean the maker can sell everything at the price they want. Hungerford Hill sold a bunch of other labels through VM over the past 12+ months

Difference is that unlike certain reviewers CM doesn't give out 94 point ratings for bottles of Pepsi.

Sure, but I'm not talking about 94pt Halliday ratings.

Either way, I can see at least three other wines that CM gave 94+ points to offered on VM as secret deals (Devil's Lair Chardonnay, Baileys of Glenrowan Durif, Seppelt Drumborg Pinot), plus possibly some of the JH scores that are CM tastings.

Fair call. But were those older vintages? This is the strange bit, if it has just hit market, why would you remainder it before its had a chance. I don't get the impression this is a "big run" wine.

PS can't resist a cheap shot at Mr 95 points' ratings. I've been burnt too many times by his overblown scores. They mean nothing to me now.

I rather lovingly refer to those Pepsi wines as Dr Pepper wines (no offence to Dr Pepper drinking fans)! You know the ones - very sweet, lots of cherry, a touch spicy heat, and fizz, all wrapped in an easy drinking style! There are so many producers delivering this kind of wine, especially to the overseas supermarkets (and to our high street retailers), that it's great we have a number of good online retailers championing the cause of the smaller producers who are focussed on good quality, great drinking wines, for us all to enjoy.

Sorry all, not really directly VM related, but after some advice if possible! Tried 2014 Planta Circa Cabernet Sauvignon | Purple Hands Wines - Barossa Valley, South Australia at the cellar door festival and haven't managed to find it anywhere, they only make 60 doz a year because the vines are minimal. Has anyone found a supplier or could point me in the right direction?

Cheers

Purple Hands was in the Kemeny's catalogue I looked at yesterday. Haven't still got the catalogue but look up Kemeny's website or give them a call.

Brilliant! Thanks for the assistance! Cabernet sourced from vines planted in 1880 are always going to be exciting! I had a bottle of the 2013 which was the first ever vintage and it was stunning! Got 97 from JH and 97 from Wine Showcase, so I was very eager to buy some when I tried it at the Cellar Door Festival. They had it for $70 on the day, I was being cheap though and thought I'd try and sneak some from another supplier cheaper, should have known better as when you only produce 60 doz, you probably don't hand it to wholesalers such as VM, WD, WM etc

I don't know either. I can only guess that there's more to running a winery that trying to sell every bottle at maximum price. Things like cashflow, and getting your bottles out into the market, probably also matter. From memory, the last vintage of this had good scores too, but also ended up on VM.

Not sure how it will be as a wine, but nice to support a good cause.

You have some good tastes - CM just rated this 97. Great score for TWF. His review:

Barossa Valley cabernet sauvignon. 63 dozen made. Grown on a small plot of cabernet vines planted in 1880.

I’m not going to go into too much detail but if you have a bent for Barossa red wine, and Barossa cabernet sauvignon at that, then go and buy yourself some of this. Treat yourself. It’s beautiful. $70 might seem a lot but it’s not. It’s dirt cheap. In Barossa Valley red wine terms, this is a sensation. Tannin, fruit, mouthfeel, the whole shebang. Don’t say you weren’t told.
