Hey all, I tried the Gundagai Shiraz last night and I loved it. Very Central Victorian in style, medium bodied with cool climate characteristics. Definitely a huge bargain at $12 a bottle.

Those of you out there with a pepper aversion will however struggle! I am not sure if I've ever come across a more peppery wine. By mid bottle it was all white pepper. I personally love it, but if this is not your cup of tea, you will likely despise it.

How strange. Bottle variance? I must admit I would normally chill mine down to around 18 before drinking and I didn't in this case. May have had an influence.

Yes it does seem odd - mine would have been 16-18 deg.

Having our first bottle of the Maverick Twins GSM 2014 that we got about a month ago based on recommendations here - excellent value at around $10 a bottle incl. delivery. Cheers!

On our second bottle of the 2013 since it arrived a couple of days ago. Surprised me - good mouthfeel, nice fruit and some fine tannins that make it really nice drinking.

Has anyone done a vertical tasting on the Maverick Twins GSM? I think VM are selling/have sold 2012, 2013 and 2014.

So far I have only tried 2013 and loved it and wondering whether the other years are good too.

I completely missed this first time round... Is there a revised price since the CM 94 rating of have they stuck with it?
I have *just* put myself on a hiatus from buying any more shiraz, as my cellar is pretty monotonous at present. Surely I can't break it already!

I'm also way overstocked (need to stay away from this forum), but still found a way to buy 2 cases (Hungerford Hill Gundagai Shiraz) all the positive comments on this forum. Will split 1 case amongst family and pop one in the cellar for 5+ years.

Thanks to all above who have narrowed it down. I might eat my hat here - but I'm out. If a premium wine is going at such a good price, I do some more digging, especially when it's a concealed deal.

Vivino has 10 ratings at an average of 4.2. Sounds good, but as AC has pointed out on another thread. That average is across vintages. So when you drill down, those that tried it were citing an amazing nose, but an underwhelming palate that didn't match. Cellar Tracker has one score of 92, and they said it was their least favourite of the premiums tried at cellar door.

If I hadn't blown my monthly budget in the first two days, I would probably jump on the basis of the descriptions and pedigree. But there will be better deals for me to go over budget ...!
