Vinomofo Wine Deals

Is VM still as generous and ready with their returns? A few of my mates were just saying VM's becoming tighter with their returns policies.

So far they have taken back all my returns, but they can take up to 2 weeks to collect. Note I either return after tasting one or two bottles.

Relieved to hear that it wasn't just my tastebuds that are finding the Ulithorne lacking! I totally understand that taking a punt on a $10-12 wine is going to throw up mixed results but whoever is writing the descriptive information on the 'Fo seems to be playing hard and fast with the truth (in many cases). I've already been somewhat chastened by having expressed this in a previous post but it's pointless trying to engage would-be buyers with the sorts of cloud-cuckoo land BS that is being peddled because it results in a large volume of returns which is not a happy consequence for either the business or the consumer-there we go, whinge for the day! :D

I think you're right, I bought a dozen the last time it was offered and it was probaly one of the most disappointing wines I've imbibed for many a year! Lacking any discernible character, insipid, bland, "plush plum flavours" ballocks! I can't understand why Jancis Robinson and Tony Keyes have given it any credibility at all (and of course that is my subjective opinion BUT I have been drinking wine for around 35 years now and have quite a few benchmarks to judge it on)...

edit: sorry, just realised AC had given the game away in an earlier post, would be very keen to hear another FF's experiences with this wine

I had a case of the '14 which I also though was lacking...and somewhat confusing wine...I was my first purchase from the Fo and was hesitant to use the returns policy having not been a big purchaser of wine online.

I tired to leave a few in the back of the fridge to see if some time would improve them...but I drank them.

It really is their entry level wine I think...because their GSM was nice, and their stuff coming from France is good too, their Rose was a pleasant surprise for myself who doesn't drink Rose.

Fair dues but we are talking about a reportedly $40 bottle of wine here! The labelling and site information all looks and reads like a dream but I'd be reluctant to take onboard any other wine from their cellars...once bitten twice shy!

The Mad Hatter is on

Is that what it is? I got an email from VM saying I bought it last year do I want more - TBH I drank a bott this last night - it really does not impress me at all - am I that bad a judge?

Got the same email. Enjoy the wine, but we really do not need any more wine right now. Must drink faster.

Worth a punt at $25 AC?
A busy forum this arvo whilst I was lazily enjoying a 2015 Top paddock Pinot for starters and then a never before tried 2005 Fairbank Cab/Merlot(78/22) from Bendigo. Three of us had nearly four hours to talk about Vinomofo, Pauline Hanson, U2's latest blu-ray, Super Hi def telees, and all things to save the planet, but after we did that in the first fifteen minutes, it was time to really get deep with the conversation. All fun, but I went thru many pages here and the best post, and correct me if I am wrong, was AC keeping, or nearly keeping his finger off the Buy Now Button. Second to that was someone else who I think luckily chose to arrange the letters in his monicker correctly saying he is going to ditch the Allegiace shiraz that hasn't been delivered yet. Am I wrong here, did I miss a review as my six bott case thru The wine guy are waiting for daddy.

The Fo never cease to attract us with those offers and wasn't it AC himself who said deals would become skinnier and sinnier.(didn't mean to leave the k out but it's good). They may be as skinny as Queen Lattifa's g string, but they are still there. And doesn't the free shipping excite everyone.

Just don't forget to post your reviews, and if they are harsh, so beit, but at least they are honest on the Nice Wines I Have Had forum.

ps...nearly forgot...those white label wolfies certainly have a stack of cudos. I cannot remember having any at all, but my guess is that for $25, they pack one hell of a punch, plus the cellaring potential would have to be great. Can someone enlighten me as to the flavour profiles from personal experience. Ta.

and finally.......a query from someone
There may be a bit of price fixing on the websites but I don't think wineries are making wines specifically to be sold on VinoMofo.

You wanna bet your house on it? I was listening to a local sunday morning wine radio program and the winemaker that was on, a name that I can't remember nor the winery, specifically said they make wine for the Fo. Add Cantoniere , and quite possibly the latest one I bought, the cool climate shiraz Mussolini. I don't really care so long as I like it and it offers good value. When they quote sixty bucks retail, it should taste like a premium product. Otherwise, it's going back.

Did I tell you about my mate who got to drink 12 wines, a case, for free after returning 12 cases in a row. Of course I am joking, but I think there would be some who returned 2 or 3 in a row. Wozza, you one of them?

Dammit I'm one of them! Well nearly, the Jack Shiraz snuck in between them and I'm nearly ready to give up on the Little Berries. A lot of on-line merchants have their share of made-for-the-retailer wines on constant rotation, Winebox Warehouse is certainly one of them, not sure about GWD (who were incidentally offering the Olssen's The Six for $13.99 today!!) I'm sceptical about the whole concept because on the rare occasion I've hit the buy button the wines have been beyond average, mostly imbedded in mixed cases....

edit: just opened a second bottle of Little Berries and there's a touch of the Coolabah cask coming through-surely not a GOOD thing!?!

You will be ringing/emailing them and requesting a credit. They will process the credit in the future when the 10 are picked up. This NOW could take upto 2 weeks, but you know it's coming. I did buy 6 assorted oldies thru winebox warehouse so I anxiously await those. GWD in sunny Richmond make the Fo pale into insignificance with their hyperbole and value valuation. Steer cleer unless you go into their lovely tasting area and actually sample something. They are mostly very good at this, but it's been many years since I have ventured there.

The Little Berries was that Rosemount GSM sold both separately and with that mixed case. I was engaging my brother in that one as I have a few credits with stock transfers and luckily, he misunderstood and didn't get to see the triple academy award winner. Philidelphia, the island one and one other ..I think.

Out of interest W&D, name your returns from the Fo. The shame file.

The Spy Valley Gewurztraminer and the Glenlofty Shiraz Viognier arrived today. Took the Glenlofty (and a Renzaglia Cab Merlot) to dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant - yes, I know, should have been the Gewurztraminer but our friend drinks only reds. Anyway, the Glenlofty SV was really yummy and despite her being a self-confessed Cabernet-only drinker she found it so good that we sent the remainder of the bottle home with her. (The Renzaglia got the thumbs-up too but it's not from Vinomofo.)

TDC, which vintage the SV?

Well it won't be the first one I've sent back, Bethany Old Vine Grenache 2012, Juniper 'Henry's Block Dry Grown' Shiraz 2014, Ulithorne Familia Shiraz 2015, and now the Little Berries GSM 2014 (probably the best of a bad lot but still....) I was tempted to send back the Monfil Garnacha 2014 which is not to say that it was faulty or desperately lacking but just not what I had been led to believe was going to be delivered. The latter brings to mind another experience I had with Winestar and the Elefante Tempranillo (can't remember the vintage) egged on by this kind of review by CM " ...succulent, giving, loaded with black cherries, choc and spice flavours. Tees off pretty well through the finish too. Dry aftertaste. Super." don't know what he was smoking let alone drinking that day but I found it mono-dimensional and completely uninteresting, a good partner for the Ulithorne. Anyone who has tried to get a return out of WInestar will already know that though they will refund the price of the wine if you bother to read the T&C "If you wish to return wine not to your taste, we would be happy to refund in full any bottles returned to us (if we are satisfied they have been stored and handled correctly) with a deduction made for our initial freight and insurance fee. This will vary dependant (sic) on your location." I live in Southern Tas and the cost of returning the remaining 11 bottles at my expense is so cost-prohibitive that
it doesn't bear thinking about. Makes Vinomofo seem positively benevolent (and I know of few on-line retailers who won't cop return freight)!! Needless to say after protracted email discussion with the esteemed proprietor I copped the remainder which I gave away to friends and anyone else who wanted a thin, lightweight and eminently forgettable red-bummer! And yes I know it's slightly off-topic....

edit: and would I have to say the VM's return policy has been pretty damned good barring Nexday/Tasfreight's inability to pick up the wine for return, they have always credited the a/c, in my case virtually the same day upon receiving phone confirmation from me.
