The SA Cab Sav is the Pertaringa Understudy. It's a very nice drop for a warm climate cabernet. I preferred it to the recent Brothers & Sisters Cab that people on here all rated highly.

I look forward to your review of the made for the fo wine.....am I right to suggest that this should have more body than the straight shiraz from last year?

You would think so, even though last years had a great fullness to it.

Here's a tip - post a link. Then we don't have to go hunting the VM site to find the wine you're talking about.

Is it any good? I recently purchased the handpicked Mornington Chardonnay for $22.50 ... Very nice wine, but not sure it's a great bargain. Need to try it against something else to check. Might try it against a Mountadam High Eden!

P.S. Thanks for identifying.

Is the 'made for fo' even confirmed? Not that it really matters, but I thought it was actually you that posted about speaking to Fox Creek re: the last release, and something about being an export. Maybe I dreamt that? Lot's of rumours tend to fly around these days...

Edit - Box also looks to have come from Fox Creek (not the usual brown box w/ VM lettering on it from their warehouse stash).

Mountadam High Eden Chardonnay is a consistent beautiful wine. It will leave the Handicked for dead. Cheers

Mountadam is one of my favourites ... Happen to have a couple I bought recently for about $25 ... From Vintage Cellars! It will be interesting to see how they compare ... No point paying $22.50 for handpicked if I can get Mountadam for $25 and it's much better.

Any views on the Tomich?

the winemakers selection pinot is absolute rubbish, but this chardonnay I had a month ago with my brother and it was a simple quaffer. I was actually a little surprised , but it's not worth more than a tenner.
for lunch today also with my brother, I had a fat cough with a fat cough. this French graped wine was quite reasonable for a tenner, better than the supposed forty five bucker from randall T.

Good little video here about the 2012 Blue Pyrenees Estate Red.

Blue Pyrenees Estate Red 2012

Makes the Richardson incredibly tempting at $19

Blue Pyrenees Red from around the late nineties early 2000's was a jaw-dropping massive wine, but in the in between years didn't quite cut it in the same way, having said that I haven't tried more recent releases and this certainly sounds tempting!

It's all it basically deserves let's face it!

I'll come back to you when I've tried it in a couple of years time.

Who knows it might be a whole lot better (but I'm still not holding my breath )
Since there isn't much online, for those that purchased - here's the tasting notes doco from the winery (wasn't working on their website).

It certainly reads well...I'll post my views on the Hart of the Barossa tomorrow!

Any views on the Tomich?
The Tomich is ok nothing special IMHO. Tomich just does not seem to come together or be focused; it seems to lack start and finish and as such does not make much of an impression. Much better chardonnay out there above and below $22.50. The good thing about Mountadam is you can get up to 8 years of cellar life out of a bottle. We finished our last bottle of 2008 on May 12. Brilliant! Cheers

Well I said I'd report back on the Hart of the Barossa The Brave 2013 and here it is as promised (I've inserted an image of the wine as it might be going back in time a bit for some of our newest members):
Hart.jpg

Pulled the corkscrew out and popped it open (yes, that's right it is under cork) FWIW the cork is one piece/natural and appears to be of good quality. Poured a moderate amount into a glass and observed the very deep alizarin crimson hue fading to magenta, certainly quite alluring. The nose, well I picked up black cherry, chinese 5-spice, a hint of vanilla and a hard-to-describe slightly marzipan/medicinal dimension. I had expected the palate to be bigger and bolder than was really the case, a bit of pre-sales hype perhaps? These adjectives come to mind: soft, round, gentle, yielding. Little astringency or oak definition to my tastebuds, the flavours hinted at previously of black cherry and subtle vanilla but really not getting the boldness or robustness indicated by CM. If this has "...all guns blazing" then they're pop-guns rather than 44 Magnums! That isn't to say that it is lacking necessarily. Anyway, a relatively long finish as the shots echo round the room of strawberry ripple ice cream, a teensy bit underwhelming in my book, will revisit it tonight to see how it has fared....

Addendum: had another crack at it tonight and it hasn't grown wings and soared away I'm afraid, OKish, probably only a 90 W&D points from me, I'm curious to hear what others have made of it.

So the Tomich Chardonnay is not worth buying at $13.50 then?

Are you saying there is much better Chardonnay out there than Handpicked Mornington above and below $22.50?

Good to know about Mountadam cellar potential, but I doubt I'll have it that long! Hopefully the 2009 and 2010 Bannockburn Chardonnays I have will be great.

Bannockburn will be quite enjoyable. Mountadam was the last of three cases; but we also have Giant Steps, 12th man and Nantua Les Deux. Tomich you could drink but dont over expect. Under $22 Madfish, De Bortolli etc. Cheers

Cracked a Fox Creek this afternoon with the missus. Sorry, but this is about the most you'll get out of me for 'tasting notes.' It's got a nice nose, which I find slightly changes when you go back which is intriguing (possibly due to the shiraz, cab, merlot blend?). I find it an enjoyable drop, with some complexity coming through at the end, which I sense is the merlot. Definitely happy with it for the price paid.

I only hit it with an aerator after a quick sample from the bottle, so I'm sure others can dissect it over a decant.

Popped and poured on a lazy Saturday afternoon. This doesn't seem to be in the same league as last year's Shiraz Cab. The nose kinda matches the notes, but the body seems to be thin to me. Tannins are soft. Maybe it needs a bit more time to breath. Not bad, but not great like last year.

I think AdMel's asking about the Handpicked Collection, not Tomich.
Sorry AdMEL and AC for the wrong understanding. I have found with Handpicked it depends on who they use for supply. Had some great West Aussie stuff from them including Chardonnay at sub $20. Cheers:)
