Vinomofo Wine Deals

So! Was it the Thistldown Two Roads? I loved it, and even enquired via the winery for more when VM didn't have any left. The winery had none and did not mention they were producing more. If VM have got their hands on more, I'd love to know, will drop them a line.
Are you saying you drank your entire case from last year?

This years wine has had no feedbacks here but I am sure the sleuths were onto it. At about the fourteen bucker level, I can understand some hesitancy as an impulse buy, but it does make me want to dig up another bottle in the near term.

There was another stunning wine I bought from the fo in the last year in a six pack, and have had two since. It was absolutely sublime and was a Kakaba Reserve shiraz 2013, but not one review to be found. It happens I guess.

Well yes!...it was very, very drinkable and there are 2 of us. Hard to hide the good stuff from yourselves when you know it's there. Unlike the Vale innocent bystander mule, which we are happy to let mature in a dark cupboard the pyranees mule much nicer, but also on the wait list.
Life is short, drink the good stuff first and hope more comes along
Had missed tha Kakaba, will keep that name in mind.
Been away visiting friends in Vic. And visited a farmstay restraunt in Mirboo North where they had a devine italian style shiraz made by relatives, but that is a story for another thread.

Very quick question. The salvation cases. Are they really what they say (left overs from returns or damaged cases?) - or is it just a differently marketed but standard mixed pack? Also - are all salvation cases the same? If I order 2 - will they be identical?

Thanks!

I can't answer all of your questions, but I've had a couple of salvation case bottles that have wine stains on the labels, indicating that they were near a broken one at some point. Also last year after the Cantiniere debacle there were reports of those turning up in the salvation cases too, indicating that they were indeed farming out returns too.

Mostly seems to be the stuff that gets returned - aka what people don't want, but after a bottle or two has been drunk, so can't be resold in original packaging. I can't imagine there are too many damaged packs - that'd be costing VM (or their insurer) a bomb compared to their margins.

Also - are all salvation cases the same? If I order 2 - will they be identical?

Probably easiest to just call VM about that. Even if people here have ordered 2 cases and got the same contents, there's no gaurantee you'd also get the same. Unless that's actually their policy.

I asked my 'broker' the very same question when the latest salvation came out. According to him, the packs are very much random -apart from the latest offering with the guaranteed $60 barossa shiraz in it. In this instance, the remaining 11 are very much pot luck.

I'm inclined to agree with that - if the policy was to have them all the same, there'd be more emphasis on describing the particular bottles you're getting (particularly the well rated ones). Since that's lacking, I'm assuming there's a fair degree of pot luck. Caveat emptor!

They sold out yesterday but the left over wine club cases would be far better (and better value) than the salvation cases I think

I believe the Salvation cases are essentially "bin ends". Therefore it is a lucky dip.

Been discussed before, but Salvation cases are 100% a sales mechanism to offload returns. They will include 1 premium wine to tout the offering, but with the rest you are largely taking others' returns. Every time there are complete duds (e.g. cantiniere, think outside the circle, etc), you will see them in these cases. If they are struggling to move poor sellers, yep, those go in too. It's deceitful advertising to say the least the way they make it sound like they've recovered some awesome wine that had a breakage which is completely false for the majority of the content.

Hi all, just wondering do you think Cellary have got the Mornington BM Chardonnay 2014 $25 (down from $70) right -Circe 2014 Hillcrest Road? - if not any other suggestions? If so, anyone tried it?

Disagree.

I've had some great stuff in salvation cases over the last 3 years including Penfolds.

You didn't catch my context. I was saying that deals that are complete duds (e.g. think outside the circle) that people return are the wines that end up in salvation cases. Circle was appearing in every single pack for months while they were trying to get rid of it. I don't doubt that you'll find a few that you may like in a mixed case, but in this day and age of wine deals, I don't need to sacrifice by taking on others returns and hoping I find 1 or 2 that I might like.

The 2015 Twins Cab Sauv is back up today with free shipping. It's another boom for me.

Dammit DB I boomed on this even though I've sworn an oath of abstinence (from BUYING not drinking obviously!) based on your effusive reviews, also fuelled by the fact that Maverick are pulling up stumps and moving on and who knows how much of this is vintage stashed around the vaults...I'm sure it will be great though :D
