Vinomofo Wine Deals

Good to know it wasn’t just me that thought that. What vintage was it as I purchased both 2013 and 2014
Cracked open our last Giant Steps Merlot on the weekend and found it to taste like one might expect lighter fluid to taste. I think we had only one good bottle from the entire case....

It’s not a palate issue, some bottles were well and truely undrinkable.
I had the 2014 (12 pack) and am still holding 2-3 bottles, didn't get any lighter fluid taste but all the bottles thus far have had what I can only describe as a touch of the "barnyard funk", it seemed to blow off after a few minutes and I've thoroughly enjoyed them but it is something I've never come across before, just my two bobs worth.....

2014. The 2013 we had were really good so it added to the disappointment.
Exactly what I found too - 2013 excellent but the 2014 were complete hit and miss. Not sure if it was just my batch that had been heat damaged but as others noted some bottles were a bit funky and not a palette issue. Shared a couple of bottles with friends who all commented the same. Only way to find out is to open and hope, will give more time to breath next time as recommended.

On a seperate note, any ID on this yet?

Thanks Rob&Blkcat, - that bad  then you need congrats for persistence in opening others after such
a bad run with the wine. :)

On a similar note to the undrinkable Giant Steps, a friend of mine picked up a six pack case of the Haselgrove Lear. When he went to open the first bottle the entire foil top came off with the lid with very little force. The wine was off and had to be poured down the sink. He's only opened one other which was great but will be interesting to see if others have faulty closures. I've not touched my own case as of yet.

I hope evryone

I'd have just returned the case had that happened with my first bottle. Same with the Giant Steps Merlot if it's as bad as people are saying.

I was a bit surprise to read the previous posts as I find it excellent. It all make sense now as it is the 2013 I got in the Cellar :) I think it is beautiful and I am letting the remaining 4 bottles to age a bit.

I may actually also have 1 2014 that I got directly from the winery.

I'm amazed to hear these comments. I got a dozen of the 2014, I've got 5 left and every bottle has been brilliant. I took one to Christmas lunch and everyone in the family write down what it was.. This one is on my list of best bargains for 2017!

I returned my Lear, it was no where near the quality that you would expect given the rrp. Actually even at the vm price it was still not for me.

Vinomofo Black Market GMS 2016 $18 --> $9 looks like the Schild Estate GMS to me (2016 Schild Estate Barossa Valley GMS – Products – Schild Estate). Anyone tried that as cheap option?
I normally love the Schild Estate wines particularly the Shiraz and bought a case of the 2014 from the 'Fo a while back but found it a bit underwhelming, not faulty but a tad lightweight to my palate and lacking in complexity so I sent it back, who knows maybe the 2016 is a cracker.....

Making a risky generalisation, 2016 was a better vintage than 2014 in the Barossa and typically produced "bigger" reds. Barossa 2017 will have more lighter style reds and 2018 probably back to bigger styles.

I’m drinking ‘13 now (purchased from VM) and love it, I have some 14 but haven’t tried any yet - hoping it will be similar. For me the ‘13 has been good for the last 12-18 months, before that it was ok but pretty run of the mill

Also drinking some 2013 and have found it only just coming into a good window now. Not as "full" as say Sons of Eden but good at that price range.
