Vinomofo Wine Deals

The Parker is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 78.5% | Petit Verdot 21.5%
The Petaluma A blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot and 8% Shiraz
Not sure that that's conclusive enough given the extensive history vinomofo has deliberately lying in their descriptions.

Confirmation from someone that has purchased would be valued.

Its the Evans.
They are going from the book as opposed to the website as they have often been doing - and the old one at that - note here for 95 rating

VM had to 2003 Evans on the site recently - the write up is pretty much identical to the current one

It's Petaluma Evans - I've had it confirmed.

I havent tried this vintage but it's generally a good wine. Probably on the expensive side at RRR. Nick's had it for just under $60. At $35 I bought some.

Well spotted there. I've recently bought their 2008 cab merlot (Cracka, an absolute bargain at today's $12.99!) and the 2009 shiraz (VM, also excellent value at $15) - both lovely wines and at their peak now. I'm a big fan of Umamu all of a sudden :)

Edit: with these all hitting the discount market recently, there may be others around in the near future - worth looking out for some of the others that have great reviews.

I just missed out on the 2008 cab Merlot on cracka as they only have 11 bottles left (need 12 to trigger discount). However it appears they have the 2009 cab Merlot too at same price: Buy 2009 Mystery Museum Release Margaret River Cabernet Merlot - Cracka Wines | Cracka Wines

Wonder if it’s just as good?

I avoided it because of the Halliday review:

"Deep colour; dark, oaky and savoury; structure wins out over fruit, as the tannins are plentiful and very drying; certainly needs time, if the fruit can go the distance; time will tell" 88/100

Interesting review. Reading between the lines he isn't confiden it will age well.

My rule is that any wine on the discount market that has a bad review is probably not worth buying. Tastes are pesonal and reviews can vary but wines are generally discounted either because they are selling for the asking price or the winery is in trouble and needs cash.

Good rule to have. I've been disappointed by some older wines that haven't developed well (2009 Mitchell Sevenhill cab is a recent VM example) so I tend to be careful too. For the Mitchell, the review (91 points) was on the fence and the wine didn't go the way it might:

"Good retention of purple-crimson hue; the bouquet is fragrant, and like the fore-palate, has clear and attractive cassis and redcurrant fruit; after a mid-palate dip, savoury tannins come through strongly on the finish, needing to soften. The question is will they do so before the fruit fades?"

The 2008 Umamu cab merlot was a buy for me based on a good score (91) but a review that was positive about its ageing prospects, and I've been very happy with the couple of bottle I've opened:

"Strong purple-red; an intense, penetrating blend that pulls no punches; despite its power, the black fruit and briar characters are well balanced with each other and with the tannins; simply needs time"

I jumped on 3 cases of this as I thought it was an absolute bargain! Havent tried the 2018.
So you bought the 17 from VM? So did I... it was the 18 they had recently that I missed out on. Always enjoy Riposte! Getting popular so maybe a future price hike. Great wine for the price agreed!
