This is the team’s prestige Chardonnay. Being Margaret River, that means much is expected. And much delivered. Their best fruit is whole bunch pressed to tank for settling and then to new French oak barriques for a wild ferment. After further maturation, the best barrels are selected for blending, making only 1,845 bottles. A deep gold hue, this is a classy effort which is exhibiting excellent oak integration. There is early complexity already evident with notes of cashews, orange rind, stonefruits, spices and ginger, with a hint of lime-y acidity. Supple texture, impressive length, the wine is seamless with good intensity. A cracking Margaret River Chardy. Six to eight years. I guess kind of like the whisky club where they use buying power/reputation to source good product instead of a place to offload bulk coughe.

Yep it is Canobolas Smith Cabernets. Cooler Orange climate. Lower alcohol, slightly higher acidity making it quite refreshing and nice red fruit in the middle. Very easy to drink. Bought it from VM about a month and a half ago.

Opened my last bottle of this tonight. One of the better buys from recent years, pretty hard to find.

You’re far better off turning notifications ON for AFF and OZB forums and watching your phone for posts of deals.

Also, can pick up far far better deals at BWS Clearance (eg Clonakilla O’Riada @ sub $30 and the SV @ $80 the last couple weeks before gift card / cash back) and Dan’s at times along with other bottle shops / distributors.. just need look around online and get lucky with timing. Plenty of deals to be had.

Vinomofo spruiking a lot of “bottled specially for VM” wines and trying to flip them off under ridiculously inflated RRP’s or banners like “biggest ever sale” (which is nonsense given Dead Arm was cheaper a couple weeks back)

I guess the site is “ok” if you want to get a $20 bottle for $10 (with the quality being about $10)…. the real value (imo) is trying to find deals where you are paying $20-$30 for $60-$80 bottles (that are worth $60-$80!)

Subscribe to Winestar. They have some ridiculously good deals at times. Free shipping on a dozen bottles, and the shipping is fast. I have rarely had a dud from them in 15-20 years of patronage.

These days I seem to buy primarily from Langtons on carpe diem day, BWS clearance with CB, the odd Liquorland special with CB, and then opportunistically and more rarely from Vinomofo, Cellarone, TWC and Winestar. I used to be winestar only a long time ago.

I feel like I'm getting 'better' wine for cheaper at the mo, so something in this strategy is working...

i cracked The Specialist 2020 I bought from VM last year. Cracking Chardonnay. So I feel vindicated buying 2022 vintage!

Its not a huge huge deal but approx 290-300 at local prices if you were to get the bottles separately/locally. Plus free delivery
