Postponed again…according to Exec Traveller website at least.
Yep, the event is off, again.
I guess they fibbed last time (they weren't ready) saying it was due to covid and the flu when there were hardly any cases and now we have lots of cases it would be hard to proceed.

This is going to be such a let down when they announce it, just do it online. This is ridiculous, they look silly now.
99.9% of Joe Public's don't know diddly about this hanger event.........and for us here that do, well once it's announced & the pat on the backs are done with at VA HQ, we'll judge the announcement on what it is, not oh wow that's a great additional to VA blah blah, but gee how silly are they it was postponed a couple times!

Media events are usually for announcements. I wish they would do it online now, it's getting a little long in the tooth, but that's just me being impatient.

One newspaper said Virgin was "toning the dialogue down" or something like that, around this whole announcement.

I am sure the announcement is nothing really.

That was the The Australian, so I'd take that with a grain of salt (they couldn't even specify any context around that statement).
It'll be something relatively big for a hangar event.

But not large enough that they were willing to delay it for 2+ months just because there was capacity limits in the hangar?

I don't buy it for a second.

Agreed. It will be some media/marketing thing - new logo or uniform at best. Doubt it would even be a new livery - for one, not going to have that hidden for 2 months, and also I don't think VA2 is going to splash money around repainting aircraft.

Point transfers are resuming 19 July while the event is on 25 July (thread title refers to original date of 19 May)
Points transfers have not as yet resumed so I would not expect the "Event"
to occur unless it will be an explanation on how to transfer points to SIA !

Lol just when you think that surely businesses won't use covid as an excuse for random BS anymore 🤣

I doubt it's anything major, otherwise they wouldn't have postponed it for so long.

As said in some announcement about looking good for instagram, it's probably just some decorative get together which looks 'fun', people can have a good time and celebrate some award or achievement, or superficial announcement.

Yeah just as you think that Australia suffers an almost universal staffing shortage, our hospitals fill up even further, people continue to suffer with long COVID and winter is just starting.

.... Lots of reason to laugh.

I'm not personally laughing but lets also not over-react, again.

- Staffing shortage is primarilyl because of prolonged border closures, a government decision
- Hospitals filling up is because people aren't sufficiently vaccinated (75%+ of people in hospital have only had 2 vaccines or less = basically unprotected)
- Having up to date (3rd/4th shot / 1st/2nd booster depending on your interval timing) is now linked to having excellent protection against long covid, so again people should be rushing to get their boosters up to date...
- Winter is actually in its last month, just finishing - I think you have your calender mixed up :)

Regardless it is a little strange that VA2 have cancelled the event again, there is no guidelines that would require this, infact the QLD government are still heavily promoting the Spring events season for gatherings 1000x larger than this.

And as others have pointed out again and again, why not just do a virtual event if they can't execute an in person event, for whatever reason....?

I suspect the original gram-able focus was probably a re-hash of the new J/Y seats currently on the 2x ex-Silk Air units being announced as being retrofitted across the entire 738 fleet.

But it could be worse. The whole VA 2.0 announcement may end up similar to the big Qantas announcement where they ended up announcing Toasters in the Hobart lounge.

Oh well, it doesn't really matter as the general public has no idea about this event anyway, just us fanatics, so it doesn't look bad to the masses.
