Got this one today.

Me too (and strangely enough, this is the first email I have had from Virgin since 2010, and I opened a case with them asking why I hadn't received any email from them since then, a week or so ago, and got an update yesterday saying they were investigating). Just as well AFF exists, or I would have missed out on the 30% deal (I'm a fan of the flexi's at the moment with my J upgrades and half price points ;)).

Book a return flight, BNE - DRW for $250 (about the normal cost of a saver fare) then used the comp upgrades I get as platinum to upgrade to J!

J BNE - DRW for $250!! nice!

Excuse my ignorance, but is this promo code box a new addition? I've never noticed it before!

Needless to say, no offers have come my way.

Yes, I believe it's new. It's probably born out of necessity of coordinated promotions with NZ who like to have "$30 off trans tasman" and "10% off ex-BNE" type promotions. It was always difficult to perceive the value in those sort of promos on the DJ site because the sale price was simply loaded as a regular fare. At least now when you punch in the code you can see the price change.

I'm sure plenty will scream about how only LCC would have to resort to promo codes, but I like it. The main flaw with the current implementation is that placement of the promo code box is entirely unintuitive.

It was there about 2 months ago.

Booked MEL-OOL return for travel in Sept. $99 each way.
The return was only $149 for flexi, so took that and used one of my upgrades... Nice? I think I scored well.

Also nited the upgrade came from one of my 4 as a plat, and not from the bonus one issued recently.

....sent from the place closest to the airport I just arrived at.

Ooops - I guess this being the first time I'd ever been provided with a code it was the first time I've needed to look for that box.

As a Plat got the VELPROMO not the 48HRSALE... less than happy
The 48HRSALE promo was advertised in the V-mail sent out at 12am on 22/8, it has also got a mention on the VA Facebook and Twitter feeds. It was not targeted the same way the VELPROMO one was.
