Virgin Amex Velocity Platinum card now 110k points

I knew some people were 'working' the system, but that's quite some effort. So yeah, I can see now why they've stopped referral bonuses. Shame for those out there just referring their family or friends.
Though to be fair, even at 100k points for this card, it's still a decent deal to sign up to. ;-)

Not really much effort at all, the offer sells itself. I'm just lucky i work in an industry where a lot of coworkers are FIFO types and saw the deal for what it was.

I don't believe this is working the system at all (as the whole idea of a referral system is to generate new business for AMEX)... Each and every referral was legitimate.

(although i guess i did receive a extra referral on my card so 20,000 over the T&C.)

Well, I got nothing like 10, and it was all a lot of bother explaining it to people and get the link to work. So, I will be very disappointed if AMEX does not honour the original deal - agreement. Especially as it is still on the website.

I’m probably the first person on here to notice points had stopped, daily referral point drops stopped on the 22[SUP]nd[/SUP] of last month.

Putting all my cards on the table (no pun intended) I’ve been running 3 cards for this promotion, trying to hit 10 referrals on each. I ended up racking up quite a few more than 10 on each card:

Card 1: 11 banked - 4 outstanding
Card 2: 11 banked - 3 outstanding
Card 3: 8 outstanding.

Excuse my ignorance, but how did you manage to get 3 identical Amex Velocity credit cards?

Read the post :) I used friends and family once my 10 were up... Sharing the love.

Hopefully this gets sorted out. And agreed, the time and effort i've put into my (and my friends and family) referrals has been a massive time drain over the past month... but obviously worth it :)

Take it to Twitter. I find it a very powerful tool for complaining about stuff. Companies hate this sort of thing being made public. I'll be doing this if my last referral doesn't post soon....

8-10 weeks from the day their Cards were approved

You'll need to wait this out first...

I think we need to find out officially from the horses mouth whether in fact AMEX is stopping the referees bonus. Is there any hard evidence that those of us with few refs are being discriminated against? Yes, just saw ^^ post and I agree, we need to be patient for the official time to pass.

I don't 'do' Twitter etc, so it won't be me making it public if it turns out to be so.

Well, didn't someone above say they received email saying one of their referrals didn't use the link when they supposedly did?

I do think people should wait according to the T&C timeframe of 6-8 weeks, I believe, before complaining. Or, as someone else did, email them regarding it and then if they come back saying no one has used your referral, then by all means complain if you're sure they did use your referral link. I'd be pissed off to if they did that to me.

My post was part of an official correspondence a friend received from AMEX.... He was given a date his points would appear, in November (after being told 8-10 weeks) ...and further to this:

You can go ahead and refer your friends. Once they'll apply for the Card through the referral link, be assured that you'll definitely receive the bonus points.

So appears AMEX are still honoring referrals.... Just a waiting game now.

And just to lastly clear things up, if my initial post is too cryptic:

(or the other cards I’m working, on behalf of other people)

I have one card in my name. The purpose of my post was to point out that yes, points have stopped flowing from a certain date, that i have documented proof of referrals being used and points not posting and the fact this promotion is totally out of control. Spare me from the firing squad please
:D

I received this response from Amex regarding missing referral points:
----

It is our privilege that you have selected an American Express Card as the Card of your choice. Welcome to our family!

Its great to know that you have referred your friends for the Card. The standard time frame for the issuance of referral points is 6 to 8 weeks from the date the Card has been approved.

I do see that your rewards account has been credited with 20,000 bonus points for referring a friend.

As for the other friend that you have referred and for which you have not received the points, I will be glad to get this investigated by the concerned team if you can please reply to my email with the following details of the referred:

1) Name of the Card member
2) Last 5 digits of the Card
3) Zip code of the address of the Card members

Will look forward to your speedy reply.

Sincerely,

xx_x xx_xx

Looks like they've changed from instantly giving points to 6-8 week delay on posting for referrals.
I'm waiting on at least 3 more to post..

I applied using your link Sojourner, I'll let you know if I get accepted. Hopefully someone can return the favour for me too if so ;)
Accepted! Still waiting on the card, and trying to figure out where I get my referral link. I'm assuming it's when I get the card and log in somewhere.

Asking on the phone they said the referral points would kick in the same time as the 110k post to me, so I can let you know when that happens, they said it could be several weeks after the spending level is reached.

Cheers,
Dave

I'm waiting on:
1 who has made min. spend
1 who just got the card
1 who has just been approved

Once all meet min. spend I'll send off an email just to make sure it's captured sooner rather than later.

Hopefully they don't try to say they didn't use the link and just acknowledge it may be a while.

My 110k points came through (but not directed into my Velocity account) when I reached a spend of $500. However, no referral bonuses have come through yet but I'll wait for the 6-8 week waiting period before I write to Amex.
I don't like the fact that they've asked for the last 5 digits of the credit card. I'd feel very awkward asking my friends for information like that.

That was just the info I was after. I had 2x referrals post automatically on activation, but the third has had his card activated for about 2 weeks now and nothing is showing on my points summary on the AMEX website.

I'm posting again in the hope that someone here on AFF will use my Amex referral link before the offer ends:

Thanks in advance (I used another AFFers link in August :)).

Hi everyone,

I applied for the card about four weeks ago using someone's referral link from this thread, but I'm afraid I can't remember whose it was. So I hope someone receives a nice surprise points gift soon!

Now that I finally have the card in my hands, here's my link thrown in the hat, too:

Thank you to the OP all those months ago for posting about this one.

mrpooky.

Couldn't agree more re the "last 5 digits" thing...bit rude
