Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

VA471 PER-BNE on Friday night. Only two pax in J so 'dine on demand' was offered but I selected a 'normal' service timing instead. I was able to sample both mains on offer. Well presented and tasty as normal.

Service was about as good as you could expect, but with only two pax in J, you would expect it to be very attentive. I normally avoid J on the 737 (on both VA and QF) and despite the very good service on offer, the hard product is just not worth the money/points.

VA 770 CNS-BNE 13/4/17 5:50am departure

Beans with sausage. Rather unusual. Other choice was butcher museli which was not available for me.

MEL-CBR VA289 Dinner - beef short rib, quite nice. Cheese was way off. Strawberry polenta cake in a box was blergh.

1F had mushroom soup:

You could have chicken on top if desired. Tasted OK. For such a short flight the service was good, however if you plan to eat make sure you're in row 1 otherwise time could be an issue. Wasn't hungry on return flight however crew forced some Lindt chocolate on me which was a nice touch.

PER-MEL over the long Easter weekend @ 18th April, 2017.

Entree was mixed mushroom soup. Surprisingly good and authentic. Could pick up tiny chunky bits of mushroom.

Braised duck leg on sweet potato puree with red cabbage, grapes and verjuice. Never a fan of duck but thought I'd give it a go considering the only other option was barramundi fillet (had that MEL-PER and it was pretty meh).

Turned out pretty great, well balanced flavour paired well with the Phillip Shaw Pinot Noir served on flight.

Breakfast service VA916 SYD to BNE Sunday 14 May. Only pax in J and after a big weekend, I found the heavy'ish meal to be completely delicious.

Tortilla wrap, filled with scrambled eggs, bacon and cheese, topped with salsa. I enjoyed it almost too much :-|

This was the 'meal' on a flight from ADL-SYD last week. It was a nice touch to take the economy snack out of the packet and put it in a bowl. I was a bit disappointed to see 2 bits of cheese stuck together though

In all honesty, I couldn't care less. It was a last minute points upgrade to J as there was no seats left in Eco to fly ahead on. It was a full J cabin, with a couple of op ups from row 3.

I must admit, I've never had an economy snack in J that wasn't plated whether catering not assured or something extra cause I was still peckish / bored!

(I get the stuck-together-cheese is annoying, but please don't be touching every slice of cheese on my plate!)

Choice of chicken or soup. Chose the chook. Was quite nice but a little rubbery. Pilot was told to slow down by air traffic control and then we were put into a holding pattern. Flight time from wheels up to wheels down was one hour 28 minutes. Mel the lovely FA kept me well supplied with wine. Overall a good meal and great service. 4/8 in J. Row 2 served first then row 1.

Husband (WP) only chooses row 2 as he reckons it's a more comfortable ride and better leg room for the taller person. The drawback is, we foolishly book 2D/F, which will always render us last to be served.

I would be very content to see a full fare J customer optioned first, but I don't know how FA's would complete service, without zig zagging from seat to seat. Maybe they start with row 2 sometimes to balance things out now and then?

I prefer row 2 over row 1 and have frequently been served before row 1. I just thought it was a lucky dip. There doesn't really appear to be any method to it. I remember once I was in row 1 with my son and we were served ahead of row 2. Directly behind me was Bill Shorten and I would have assumed he'd be a member of the club, so I tend to think it's whatever feels good at the time ... perhaps the VA staffer wasn't a labor voter.

Think back to when VA first started J. There was a thread here on AFF where some of our mid-teen members flying J believed they were being discriminated against by VA staff as others would be served before them. It was noted at that time, that there seemed to be no rhyme nor reason to the serving order ... sometimes row 2 first, sometimes row 1! My experience is that has not changed, I still see row 2 served before row 1 fairly frequently and vice versa. I've even been served very first in 2F ... if you can work that one out, you're doing better than me.

Can anyone tell me whether a 5pm flight from MEL-BNE on Friday would qualify for a meal or a snack? From reading this thread I'm thinking snack but wondered if anyone had any recent experiences.
