Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

can anyone confirm what the meal service would be on the MEL >PER 9.15am departure? would it be the breakfast menu? or the lunch menu?

Virgin announce new catering coming soon! Bye bye fun size muesli bars :)

I cannot understand this statement -

Sparkling wine for domestic business class passengers is said to be on the menu. Virgin currently serves Champagne in business class only on its international flights to the Los Angeles and Hong Kong.

If true, I do not know what is served in transcon J then...

What is This.jpg

Or this statement -

However, exactly what would be offered on domestic routes depends on who will make the final call: airline CEO John Borghetti is a true Champagne man, but we'd wager that the airline's financial controllers would prefer an Australian sparkling.

The 'mythical' Champagne is from France as well.

I think David has been flying on QF too much....

Nice to see. Pity it took them so long to realise just how stingy they actually were.

OTOH, VA J does beat QF and this addition will be great. I can't fathom why anyone is even suggesting champers over sparkling. VA are not going to serve anything too flash on domestic and to be honest sparkling like, for example, the House of Arras range would be ideal. From relatively cost effective, but very drinkable, to some really nice drops (but likely way over what VA are intending on spending).

In any case, I have about a dozen or so VA J already booked for the rest of this year, so I'm happy!

Personally I could care less about the booze side of things just want some better food :)

Might be more appropriate in the grammar thread but "couldn't care less". No need to ape Americans when they are plainly wrong.

VA319 MEL-BNE breakfast. Omelette with smoked salmon pieces on top. Very nice, needs seasoning - salt and pepper gets it over the line. Alternate was bircher muesli, also a good choice.

Flew SYD to PER on Monday on the A330 in the morning and the following were offered for breakfast (which turned to brunch as a result of a 4.5hr delay due to a technical problem). No breakfast menu was offered with the crew coming around to describe the options to pax.

SYD-PER pre departure OJ.jpg
OJ prior to departure

SYD-PER Breakfast fuit & yoghurt.jpg
Fruit with greek yoghurt together and croissant with choice of jam, vegemite or honey

SYD-PER breakfast omelette.jpg
Mushroom and chive omelette with smoked salmon. As noted by toowongman it needed some seasoning

SYD-PER pantry meal.jpg
Freshly made cappuccino with the chocolate and cashew raw bar and ANZAC biscuit from the 'Pantry' menu (apologies for the poor lighting)

SYD-PER pantry meal 2.jpg
Mixed nuts from the 'Pantry' menu with dry ginger ale.

7am,Sydney to Melbourne and offered a very nice bacon and egg tortilla wrap with a side tomato relish and either croissant or bread roll. Quite tasty and enjoyable.

10.30am Melbourne to Hobart and a very nice cheese empanada with tomato relish. Seriously good, wish I could buy at a bakery good. Came with yoghurt and a choc Praline cake that, first world problem, was too rich. A very nice quick meal.

You did better than my wife on previous Monday. Originally booked Sunday night, Virgin changed her to the 737 via Melb. Did not suit her, so was rebooked on 0715 (330) flight Monday morning. 5 hr delay resulted in all the breakfast food being offloaded and no lunch food loaded. No booze, no food, just water and a cup of tea. Business seat was very comfortable though.......

A bit late but did Syd bne on 16jul 12 midday flight, enjoyed the comfort, the food and the service. Silver service lunch was a pork something and very tasty. Good job virgin.

VA470 BNE-PER on the weekend. A very WP 'heavy' flight, with quick glance at the manifest upon boarding showing 19 out of 20 in J being WP with the remaining pax being FF tier 'V'. I do not know what 'V' denotes but could be VIP and/or The Club?

Unfortunately, I have had this menu before, but it still a good one.

The Pantry was not loaded, so no chocolate/caramel popcorn on this trip. However, Tim Tam fingers provided instead (I assume sourced from Y).

Hmmm..not sure if your wife was on the same flight as me but I was talking to another pax (not in J) who told me that she was originally on the Sunday night flight but was put on the Monday morning service due to change in a/c.

Your response prompt me to think whether the food that I had was left on the plane whilst it was getting fixed (this wouldn't be ideal as the food might have gone off) or VA ordered new catering for our flight (this is more likely given they have plenty of notice).

Was secretly hoping that the long delay would result in lunch being served which would have been more appropriate given our lunch time departure

Ouch - I hope you write a strictly worded complaint letter you adjoins get some sort of compensation for this.

That coconut chicken did look good. I now have food envy as I was supposed to have it ADL - HBA but flight delays affecting catering window. Had a beef pastie instead which was tasty but lacking the sauce (not loaded). Wedge of cheese and popcorn from the pantry rounded out dinner.
