Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

BNE-DUD (VA120) on 23/12 - had a delicious rib with potato gnocchi, and a side of lavosh crackers cheese and quince paste. There was also what appeared to be a Christmas gingerbread cookie, which I didn't particularly like.

On the way back ZQN-SYD (VA163) on 27/12, we had a red duck curry which was spicier than I thought it would be (in a good way!).

Unfortunately my flight from SYD-BNE (VA999) was delayed, and by the actual take off time of ~10:30pm, I wasn't really hungry any more.

Pantry Pig flies Coast2Coast....

VA FA suggests "...would you like olives OR almonds with your pre-dinner drink?"

Pantry Pig replies
"...ermmm...I will have the olives, but with some chips/crisps as well please."

Anyone have photos of the J meals MEL-HKG? Appreciated a previous post with the return leg photos, but would love some reference to the outbound flight. We're not sure if we need to fill up on the flight down from SYD and/or the Lounge at Melbourne before we board.

Thanks

If you give me a couple of days I’ll post them up (plus menu) for you. Flew it on Tuesday and really enjoyed the service, 2 spare seats in J and full Y for this flight.

The MEL Etihad lounge was ok in the morning, the breakfast hot food was not out till 8:30 and consisted of mushrooms, hash browns, sausages, scrambled egg and something else; cold food was yoghurt, fruit, and few other dishes. Plus the usual toast, cereal, but coffee is from the automatic machine (no barista working). Spread is ok considering Etihad don’t have any flights out until later in the day.

Flying J on VA87 (MEL-HKG) in the past week, menu's were:
IMG_6742 VA87 Menu1.JPG IMG_6743 VA87 Menu2.JPG

And the actual meals are:
Starter - Poached prawns
IMG_6805 VA87 Prawns.JPG

Main - Steamed barramundi
IMG_6813 VA87 Barramundi.JPG

Dessert - Choc ice cream
IMG_6817 VA87 Dessert.JPG

Evening meal - I did pick the roast duck on noodles, but somehow it was BBQ pork with noodles instead.
I did question this to the attendants after eating it, and they couldn't tell the difference between duck and pork.
Also with the choc muffin and fruit bowl.
IMG_6859 VA87 BBQ Pork.JPG

Overall a good experience and my first time flying long haul J.

I would say the return leg on VA86 was much better as the crew made it more enjoyable, and on this return leg I had a roast duck dish which wasn't that great (duck can be hit-and-miss, as it was a bit tough to eat upon re-heat). Plus I wasn't feeling up to eating this after indulging on the HK Airways lounge food, especially the made to order wonton noodle soup (and can't go past the coughtails)!

Menu's for those interested from VA86 HKG-MEL

Thank you! Looks very interesting and we are excited to be experiencing The Business again.
Can't quite believe it's been 18 months since we last sunk our lucky bums into those divine suites. It feels like yesterday, my memory of the whole flight is so vivid.

Which is a miracle in itself, as I can't remember what I ate for lunch today.........

VA779 BNE-CNS 22/1/18 9:40am departure

Offered mushroom quiche or smoked salmon dip. Interesting to see the toasted museli /dried fruit on the plain yoghurt. Offered a warmed bread roll which I declined.

This quiche offering has been around for several years, on various flights with different departure times.

Wow Carfield, that is extraordinary detail! Excellent stuff, many thanks.

Think I will fast the day before my flights and wear my best stretchy pants.

VA1640 2:10pm LST-BNE
Satay chicken skewers, very tender and flavoursome.
Petaluma The Hundred Line Chardonnay was nice (somehow downed the entire thing).
Daughter 1 had a hummus dip plate.
Daughter 2 had a special vegan plate put together.

Alana our flight attendant was superb - exceptional service.

I have started to tell the VA crew that their Business Class meals are streets ahead of QF Domestic meals on comparable routes. And when I show them the photos of the QF meals I've had recently, they tend to agree. They love hearing the positive feedback.

Totally agree with you on that one. I slept the whole way on QF on my last CNS-BNS and upon disembarkation, the CS said "oh, you missed your meal". I replied simply that had QF been in the habit of offering something worth waking for, I would have!

VA792 CNS-BNE 16/2 8pm departure

Bottled water prior to departure
Snack service: Choices of caramelised onion quiche or prosciutto salad.
Whites were chardonnay or savignon blanc.

Quiche was fine. As there were only 4/8 in J I thought I'd try the prosciutto salad too. While the portion was small, was full of flavour. Quite impressed.
