Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

...VGML...

At least one of the two main meal options onboard a B737 Business Class flight will be vegetarian.
My apologies, someone just told me that you might mean Vegan and not Vegetarian. In which case the vegetarian onboard option may not be acceptable, as IME they can often have milk based products in them. (But as they are plated onboard, the CS may be able to plate a meal without, for example, cheese on it.)

However, as AKL-RAR is a longer flight, it could have fresh/perishable pantry onboard in Business, so you should be able to ask for a fruit platter, if they have loaded it.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get a VGML on board

My daughter is vegan and we recently flew J BNE-DPS. We called the contact centre and requested a meal for her, they advised "all sorted".
However, on the day, the crew had no record of this and no vegan meal prepared. The vegetarian* option had cheese, so was unsuitable.
The crew did a super job of creating a meal from the J components plus various parts of the Y menu. It was very kind the level of effort that they made to create a meaningful dish and my daughter was very appreciative.

* VA had loaded 4 vegetarian meals and 4 non-veg meals for J. 5 of the 8 J passengers wanted vegetarian, the other 3 meat. One poor J passenger (I think we were all full fare paying) had to make do with something from Y. Not a good look for the fare cost. I did pass my comments onto VA that they really do need to allow meal selection for short-haul international.

Syd - Bne on 6:05pm. Cold option, cabbage, walnuts, grapes and chicken + 1or 2 more ingredients which i forget. Actually tasted good.

A very good effort today despite the dessert not being loaded as advertised. The starter was particularly interesting. Newspapers and hot towels offered as normal. PB enforced well with a couple of evictions from the PB line witnessed....

Beef, Coriander and carrot salad accamponied with a mixed salad.
Mixed salad contained radish, baby peas and other greens with a balsamic vinegar and was good and the beef salad was very tasty. Warm roll and a cookie to round it off.
Only 3 of us in J so staff were very attentive and kept our drinks full for the full flight and even allowed us to hold on to them for takeoff and landing

I had a month to use 4 upgrade to business vouchers so used them for a set of flights I would never pay for business. I.e. HBA-MEL return. This was the domestic legs of a J trip with SQ.

Meals were breakfast and brunch respectively, and I was quite impressed.

I booked MEL- SIN - CDG with a combination of points and dollars for myself and Mrs Tassieoptom. Neglected to book domestic legs before and after at the time, nearly forgot entirely, but booked VA HBA-MEL ret about 4-6 weeks prior. Sorry for confusion.

I have 4 left too. They really aren't worth a lot considering you have to buy flexi fares and I'm all self-funded (Perth mostly for family - but $650 each time quickly adds up...). Vainly holding on to them in the hope that a DSC offer comes along and I can begin to shore up requal for my next membership year...and get in to the pointy end of the A330 again...

At for domestic upgrades they are worth at most 9900 velocity points.

Hint, check the price of freedom fares PER-CNS ;)

Duck starter was great. I really regretted choosing the pork main, and didn't enjoy it. The dessert was fine, but I think I've had much better desserts on previous VA flights.

The same menu as my outbound flight (this seems to be happening a lot more often the past year - did they not previously have different eastbound/westbound menus?).

I chose the same duck starter as before - but interesting to see the different style with the same ingredients (smaller walnut pieces, and a different type of beetroot). I went with the green prawn curry for my main (very tasty).

VA238 ADL-MEL 6:05PM.

Options were a shredded salmon based salad or pork fillet with couscous. I had the latter:

That is a shard of fair dinkum crackle!

The meat was sliceable. The brie was divine and the desert very good.

It was washed down with a preboard sparkling wine and two in flight g&t's.

Tell me about it, this was my roadkill on a Melbourne to Sydney J class with Qantas back in August.

Had retained Velocity WP in 100 days and decided to give the other side a go with 2 trips, on one trip I had this and the other had a 14 hour delay! (Syd - Singapore)

Ugh, was that corned beef? And cabbage or lettuce? Not looking nice, even if served at grandmas.

Are you sure that you were not arrested en route and taken to some sort of prison for your meal?

Shame Neil Perry... Shame!
