Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Sorry to disappoint but Qantas also isn't serving spirits in business class:
I think Qantas has just announced complimentary beer & wine on ALL flights in economy; mainline and regional (not sure if/what time limits apply). Which makes for much better consistency that what it use to be (various times, varying routes), and snookers Rex's beer & wine as a Business only complimentary perk...

So I imagine, resumption of full beverage service in QF Business isn't too far away, as I think they will need to clearly demonstrate a better beverage service at the front of the plane, than the same as the back.

When I flew last week it was very busy as the world had gone back to normal to some extent. How things can change in a week!

The J service is just ok. There is no offer of a drink during boarding. The drinks menu seems to be the same from what I could hear. You only get a box of snacks - no hot option like on Qantas at the moment.

Sorry about that terrible photo. I must have zoomed in or something. But you get the gist.

They have soda water now? That's new - didn't have any a month ago!

Pity they can't get soda water into The Lounge at the moment...or at least not in Sydney or Brisbane as at last weekend.

Flew Melb to Brissie this morning in Economy X. Back to offering a choice of two snacks (the soy crisps or a couple of cookies) and either water, or apple or orange juice. Was still the snack box in Business.

Currently in the SYD lounge doing MEL-SYD-BNE, I enjoyed the snack box but to be honest I could’ve had two. Did manage to drink a bottle of lovely Petaluma sauv Blanc though.

but to be honest I could’ve had two.
Extra cheese and biscuits were offered on my CBR—ADL flight the other day which was a nice touch as well as a pre-flight water. There was only three people in business so perhaps he just took them out of other snack boxes.

ADL-CBR flight tonight is packed. Promises of full catering at unspecified time later in the month. Service, to be honest, was stuffy. Bare minimum and to script. Had to prompt for more booze and no water was offered for the entire flight. Different snack box this time with no cheese and no additional snacks offered. Much better service in the other direction... generous, attentive and casual.

'Generic' CBR-ADL snack box with cheese/biscuits, JAX, Muffin, and nuts (from memory). ADL-CBR was exactly the same as posted above with brownies and lavosh/chutney rather than cheese and nuts.

I had the larger snack box on MEL-SYD and the one you had on SYD-BNE, enjoyed the cake in that one but the larger snack box I felt had more variety. I did ask for more snacks on SYD-BNE and was given two of the Y snacks, which was fine.

The onboard leader (the new term for Cabin Supervisor) on both my flights were great, especially MEL-SYD. Never had to ask for a wine refill, water offered, even had a bit of a chat to him. He did ask if I knew about the onboard offering beforehand and I said I did, but only because I was kind of 'in the know'. He was really excited for the new Business Class service coming. SYD-BNE had a great OL too, but only 5/8 on MEL-SYD and 6/8 (including two kids) SYD-BNE.

Yes, the FA's seem to try to make up for the snack box in business by plying PAX with the only other offering they have.
I found the snack box ok for the hour and a bit flight but if I was on a longer flight I'd probably want two, or just take some sandwiches from the lounge. I was happy to be plyed with the wine though, though I did slightly regret that after arriving home last night.

I was gifted an extra bottle of wine to take home after one flight in January, by way of apology for the catering. (They didn't even have the snack boxes on that flight!)

Before take off, the FA started “would you like water or juice...” and I assumed she was going to add “or sparkling wine”. Sadly no. A celebratory placcie cup of water instead 957456A1-E594-4148-8D31-2175011735CE.jpeg

The snack box was pretty banal. Shouldn’t Lavosh Bites and chutney be eaten with cheese? The 4 Pines beer was nice at least. I think I’ll save my points for upgrades once the snack box era has ended.

Go with a lesser known chef. Possibly someone more boutique? Would be a great platform to build a profile.
