Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

We're now selling ham and cheese croissants in main cabin so it the apple doesn't fall far from the tree with those crumbs 🫠🤣
Oooh - is that one of the things that J pax can select? Or the list doesn't include hot/meal type items? These are my young son's favourite

VA284 CBR-MEL 1850 service, delayed to 1925 due to bird strike inbound that required a full engine check.

PB : enforced fully. As there was a delay I headed back to lounge. By the time boarding was announced there was a huge queue and general boarding had commenced. I wasn’t sure if it was ok to just rock up to the Priority queue. I saw someone do it and I followed them. The boarding agent paused the general queue and boarded everyone in the priority before continuing to board general queue.

Was welcomed both at the gates and the door by CM Kurt and FA Kate. Both very friendly, engaging and cheerful.

PDB : Still water or sparkling wine.

Meals : orders taken row 1, 2 in the order.

Grilled chucked chicken salad with farro and tahini dressing

Rossini salad - vego option.

I asked Kurt if there were any eggs in the vego dish. He wasn’t sure, but later before serving he bought the iPad and confirmed that there were no eggs in the dish. Kurt may have confused me with another Indian passenger on 1F and showed him the iPad and started explaining the dish, 1F looked visibly confused and later Kurt realised that it was 1A that wanted the know more about the dish. We all had a good laugh about it 😂😂

The vego dish was very good. The salad leaves were fresh and had a nice crunch to them, as one would expect. I’d definitely have this dish again. In my own way, a small serving of red chillies 🌶️ could have elevated this dish to the next level. Given the dish was served cold, it could’ve also been good to have had some hot drinks, but we were told no hot drinks will be served on this flight. Unsure why, though.

Wines - Cab Sav, Chardy, pinot Grigio , merlot. I went with the Cab Sav. Was good.

All trays had the cheese and crackers and little red heart chocolates, both of which were stored away for later consumption 😊

Kurt kept checking on the whole cabin every now and then for top ups etc. very attentive crew.

On descent, given the delay, an announcement was made that all connections known to VA will be met. At that time both PER and ADL connections were cutting it fine. The announcement said that the captain who is doing the CBR-MEL is going to do the MEL-PER and the some of the crew are going to be on the MEL-ADL. So we were assured that we will make the connections, which we did, with plenty of time.

VA249 MEL-ADL

CM - I think was Charlene? Or Christy? I was on my phone and didn’t listen properly.

FA - Kate, from my previous leg. Smiling as always 😊

PB : enforced fully and properly.

PDB : Still water or sparkling

Meals :

1. Grain mustard chicken with mashed potato

2. Pan seared gnocchi with mushrooms and Parmesan - vego.

Went with vego. Served piping hot, straight out of the oven. The dish itself was good, but bland and too much cheese in it. What could have elevated this dish, in Ade’s own way, is some red chillies (we are talking Thai Birds Eye 🌶️) cut and sprinkled all over the dish 😂 I did try to use the little salt and pepper packets to spice up the dish and given the cheese and gooey-ness, I couldn’t mix the salt and pepper they completely and I kinda ruined the dish 🫣

Wines - same as before. Went with the Merlot this time. Was an excellent combo to the cheese dish.

Cheese and crackers and little red heart ❤️ chocolates, stowed away for later use, as always.

Pilots also had their meals and Kate was called to the front to stand guard with the CM delivered meals to the coughpit.

On a side note :

I personally feel that a one pager print out of the drinks at least would be good? I can visibly see the crew get a bit uhhhh when asked what drinks do they have ,, I mean there’s a lot and it may not be possible to remember everything or even have the time to recite everything and the pax to make a decision … so a small drinks menu print out would be a great addition .. it’s not that the drinks menu change as often as the food menu … so it might just be easier on the crew and the pax .. just a suggestion ..

I have indeed been doing this, flew with you guys 7 times last month.

I do think that VA's short-haul business class service is great. :)
Wish they had business Perth-Darwin return and a Darwin lounge. Did it via Adelaide to get on business and a status run. Lounge in Adelaide is great but its a bit of a long haul.
Can't understand it. Must be enough mining execs up and down there and business travellers to fill the seats at much less cost than the marsupial.!

Super professional service on VA882 from SYD home to MEL this evening from Linda. Chose the mustard chicken over the mushroom gnocchi and also asked for a chocolate from the pantry after service which was happily provided (two of them!), along with a large refill of the Cav Sav. Lovely way to finish the week.

CM - Javier
FA - Lauren

PB : enforced. Welcome to business by Lauren.

PDB : still water or sparking wine. Went with sparkling wine

I think 1A asked for sparkling water as PDB, CM told that he’ll get it after takeoff.

Meals :

1. Mustard chicken with roast potato and green beans

2. Gnocchi with mushroom sauce and Parmesan

Drinks - the usuals. This time went with G&T. No lime or lemon slice onboard. So just ice it is.

The gnocchi was good. Had it early this week on MEL-ADL. This time I did not make the mistake of adding salt and trying to mix. Just had the gnocchi as served.

Orders taken 2D/F, 1D/F, 2A/C, then 1A/C. Meals were served 1A/C, 2A/C, 2D/F and then 1D/F. Not sure what happened there, but the CM apologised for the delay in bringing the meals.

Cheese and crackers, little red ❤️ chocolate served. Ran into my colleagues at the airport newsagents, so gave them the chocolate, cheese and crackers.

No hot drinks on some flights because the flight time is too short for the crew to offer it which would mean half the cabin would get served and the other half would miss out
I understand the time constraints but It’s disappointing when you’re flying out of HBA on a cold (and/or wet/windy) day especially after the trek out across the tarmac and queuing on the stairs/ramp etc out on the open to enter the plane, not being able to get a hot drink during the flight even when flying J,

No VA HBA lounge of course, so can’t have a cup of tea before leaving (and refuse to pay ridiculous airport prices LOL). I don’t drink alcohol at all, so my choices end up being cold water/lemonade/juice which again, isn’t overly appealing in cold weather!

I find it surprising that this has been introduced, as on pre-COVID flights, hot drinks were always available in J, regardless of short flight times (e.g. HBA-MEL, MEL-CBR, and vv. Cabin staffing levels still seem to be the same as they were back then?
